He's not just me down yet, I didn't expect at all where this went and I much enjoyed it.
Took me a few chapters to get into it And past the explaining of things, but once past that it's clear why this book is so highly rated. A seemingly endless adventure with little time to catch a breath, the story does not feel stale due to this. Well worth the read!
If you like stories of “how it all started” and how the gaming industry has evolved since the mid eighties, this is definitely the book for you.
The layout is a little strange and some of the content unnecessary, but the main book is well worth a listen/read if you're a gamer and like Diablo/Blizzard.
Such a great book from an authority on rum, definitely a great reference book I'll be referring to for years to come also.
This book is utter nonsense and I loved every moment of it! Should have read this a long time ago but never got around to it!
Sci-fi and silliness, my kind of book :)
Being a fan of the author from the Temeraire series I thought I knew what I was in for. But I did not at all!
This book kept me engaged right from the first chapter and kept the suspense laid on thick... I thought I knew where the story was going only for something completely unexpected to happen.
I also enjoyed reading from the first person perspective where her previous books were third, obviously a talented author to achieve both perspectives so wonderfully.
This is not a new concept but parts of it I tend to forget over time... I live my life by lots of these ideas/methodologies already but do not “go all the way”. It's a nice kick in the butt for those who still struggle to get past the hugely entitled world we are all born into.
I will hopefully take away at least 1 more method from this to make my life easier and less stressful, the delivery of this book is on-point for its target audience.
Cleaver premise but honestly, I found the execution to be pretty average. Some parts are difficult to read with every tiny piece of dialogue ending with “person said”, “person replied, “person said”. It was very off-putting endlessly seeing this filler, I'd expect it from an amateur but someone who's allegedly an experienced writer with a proper editor? What were they thinking?
I'm also not sure why the last sections (Codas) of the book existed, they really served no value at all and should have been edited out.
This book is a long journey but manages to keep the story interesting over the whole thing.
I can see why it's a classic must read, but it also took a bit to finish; a mixture of the book being written as to seem older than it is, being written in the late 1800's, and certain bits written to sound “pirate” means it is quite difficult to follow a little too often.
All in all it's a good read and would certainly suggest anyone who enjoys pirates / pirate stories to dig in and persevere with the writing. Ideally I'd have read it on a kindle to be able to look up words faster but nothing beats a real book, especially the lovely edition I have of this one!
