Awesome! Very well written, intriguing and so informative without being overtly gory or invasive to the survivors. I did not want to stop reading this! Michelle McNamara left behind an amazing legacy! I feel like I know her now and would have loved to get to know her in real life, she put her soul out there to share with us.
Kept me guessing and reading (listening) with anticipation the entire time! Very enjoyable!
Enjoyable read, I have had this on my list for awhile so I was excited that it was a comfortable and enjoyable read that pleasantly meandered and drew me in, and had a nice ending that was a surprise but yet not too implausible. Looking forward to Louise Penny's 2nd in this series.
Surreal, and such a great exploration of migration and humanity. I enjoyed it and particularly enjoyed the way the author chose to delve into the effects and results of immigration on people and their relationships, and focus on that rather than the actual movement of humans and struggles in the physical sense. It was a great read!
Excellent psychological thriller! Just couldn't stop reading cause I was dying to know the whole story.
3.5* Good story, great suspense and even if some details are a quite a stretch to make the story believable, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief in order to get to know Ellery and Reed a bit more. The characters are likable enough that I'm about to begin #2 in the series, No Mercy, and am excited that their stories seem to go on for a few more books after that.
Ellery is a survivor and although she's in law enforcement now, she's still got her trauma and her triggers to deal with, and I always enjoy reading about a flawed hero that is doing their best. Just enough suspense to be interesting, but not send my heart racing too much, so I can read/listen before bed and still fall asleep without issue.
Excited to continue the journey...
Really enjoyed this book, and the premise is so very intriguing. The amount of background and explanation behind the power is so in depth that it seems somewhat feasible. I got a little lost a couple of times, but was able to pick up the thread later on, and this may have been part of the author's way of building intrigue and suspense. Enjoyable read and a fun read that I really enjoyed!
Drew me in and kept me riveted
Such an amazing story. Well written, so intriguing and it kept me reading well after bed times and even getting up early to read before getting ready for work. So many feelings.
Great twists and turns! Love the approach of going backward to move forward. Lots of subtext that is also poignant. Very enjoyable read/listen overall.
I really didn't want the book to end, and I sincerely hope there is more to come!! Excellent and well-developed characters that I am so attached to and cannot believe are not my real friends!! lol (I do realize that I am not that cool, and that reality is much more fucked up, but please let me have my dissociative fantasies).
Fantastic series and can't wait to read the short novellas “Pale Dreamer” and “The Dawn Chorus.”
I am really enjoying the twists and turns that this author presents for us, can't wait to delve into the next book in the series!
I loved this book so much, and was sad that it ended. (But not sad because the war ending was a good thing...but you get what I mean). Inspiring and beautiful and such an exhilarating ride through history. I was on the edge of my seat so many times and biting my nails...but in the best way possible.
4.5 rounded up. Yarros does not disappoint in the 3rd installment, and it just keeps getting better.
Moriarty does it again. Poignant yet entertaining, a great read that gives you all the feels and makes you think about it all and question everything! Loved every moment!
Wow! Just, wow! So much bravery and it's so incredible that this could happen! I was appalled and horrified and so drawn in by Brittney's harrowing experience. I am so glad I read (audiobook version) this and would recommend to anyone!
formula and then some. Enjoyable read for sure. Always love the Nesbo twists and turns!
3.5 rounded up, I have enjoyed all of Danzy Senna's novels very much, and really enjoyed parts of Colored Television, but at times it got a little slow and repetitive almost. I think Senna may have been trying to build tension, but but there was already enough there, I was anxious about things, and wanted to know what was going to happen!! It was almost too much and I didn't want to wait! Or maybe it just got repetitive... <> Aside from that it was an enjoyable read/listen (you know me and audiobooks), and there were some truly “laugh out loud” moments where my partner would walk into whatever room I was in and look around wondering who I was talking to or if I was truly going mad, because I was laughing and commenting to myself. I'd suggest this to anyone who seeks insight (obviously not everyone's experience and some may see it as “overtly overblown” in some ways, but no one can speak for everyone) into the world of those who identify as mixed or whose racial identity is not as obvious on the surface.
Wow! What a twisty, turny enjoyable read! I so enjoyed this mysterious and well written foray into the world of generational trauma, sexism, classism, and how one small decision can mean the difference between becoming the monster in the dark or one who fights monsters.
I really enjoyed this and was really unsure what to do when it ended. It was over too soon and that is my only complaint.
I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this novel (I listened to the audiobook and loved it). I don't know that I have the words to explain how I felt both “called out” and completely validated while reading this. Especially since Jan 2025 ended with the world in such a terrifying state that made “oblivion” almost impossible. (If you read this you'll know and honestly, you should read this).
