Enjoyable continuation of this Romantasy series. I really enjoyed the fact that we got a bit more of the strong female protagonists I was hoping for in Fourth Wing, and that the “political drama” got more intriguing as well. Good read and I look forward to a third installation when/if it is released.
Enjoyed it very much! Ended the series out well, but I still wish there was more. :-)
Wow! This was AWESOME! I cannot wait to read the next in the series! I enjoyed this so much and was in full attention and waiting for the next page throughout the entirety! Great read! Fun! Exciting and thrilling! Descriptive and engaging writing that truly is a delight! LOVE!!!
Yet another excellent Will Trent/Sara Linton novel with the characters we love, Amanda, Faith and the rest. And of course Karin Slaughter does a fantastic job of bringing in current and timely topics to keep readers thinking and wondering about our world. Well done!
I really enjoyed this, the characters and twists and turns were all delightfully intriguing. Surprising while still believable (magically and hauntingly believable). The historical and sociological aspects of the novel contribute so much to this believability and add that subcontextual commentary that I so enjoy discussing and ruminating on after the fact. Small towns and all the challenges that come with living within, with, outside, and despite the socioeconomic, class, racial, and other such structures that are so prevalent within them....especially when they are ancient and deep.
3.5 stars rounded up, and while it was an enjoyable and entertaining read/listen (I listened to the audiobook version)I can't say it was earth shattering or had any super enlightening nuggets of wisdom. Interesting take on what it might be like to be part of the wealthy elite, but since I'm so far removed from that reality and don't anticipate ever being a part of that reality... meh..but it was a good enough story to pass the time.
3.7 rounded up to 4. While I wouldn't say that this truly and completely fits into the “traditional” Fantasy genre, as it is more of a Fantasy/Romance and almost YA novel, it was still a good read/listen, that I enjoyed and kept me intrigued enough to continue finding ways to do tasks that would give me time to listen to the audiobook. Once it ended I was also intrigued enough to find the second book in the series, so it is somewhat of thrill ride and keeps you interested in the drama and the storyline, even if romance isn't really your usual genre. And yes, there are some scenes that would be termed “spicy” by some of the ladies in the neighborhood book club. But, they are well written, include consent, contraception, and I'd even call the scenes erotic.
Overall a good, fun read that will keep most people engaged and intrigued, as long as no one is expecting a more traditional fantasy novel.
Soooo much fun!! Loved it so much! Deeply cared and had strong emotions for the characters (positive and negative) and was rooting and cheering for some and vexing others!! That is one of the things I love about Feeney, I feel like their talent for ensuring we really get to know the people in the novel so that we can really care about what happens to them and miss them when it ends, or cheer when they disappear. lol This one will have you guessing and picking the book or headphones back up even at midnight to read/listen just a little longer...
Excellent, well written and engrossing. Also sad and painful, while still hopeful. Can't wait to read #2!
3.5 stars rounded up. Good twists and turns and an ok plot. Not my favorite but a good ride nonetheless.
Vulnerable, gut wrenching, and so insightful. McCurdy's writing is so engaging and witty, yet doesn't hold back on the really difficult subject matter. Excellent and so genuine. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing and being so real J. McCurdy!
I enjoyed this quite a bit. Can't really say much without giving too much away, but read this if you want a little perspective shift on things, and a good dose of “huh? wonder what I would do...”
4.5 out of 5 for a memoir read by the Memoirist herself, and Viola Davis tells her story in a compelling and vulnerable way that makes me love and admire her even more. What a badass and resilient woman!
Beautiful in every possible way. I loved every single minute of this book. I listened to the first book of Aristotle and Dante's adventures with my middle child during a road trip we took together. I think he would really enjoy hearing how these two incredible young men continue to map their way through life's often difficult circumstances. Of course, Lin Manuel Miranda's narration was stellar and believe me when I say you will need plenty of Kleenex thanks to both the content and the narration. I doubt you could have read it without crying, but you certainly will not be able to listen to the audiobook version without a large box of facial tissue at hand.
Really enjoyable listen/read. 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars. Suspenseful, twisty, turny, and unpredictable. I really enjoyed the dark realities of the story and the way the author presented the characters with so many deep revelations, ones that were life altering. However, it was a bit of a challenge to suspend my disbelief enough to buy into the idea that a person could go through so many revelations in such a short time without therapeutic intervention...although we don't really know the “ending” of the character's journeys as this is the first in a series, so maybe some if that will pan out over time. Even with that minor “challenge” I was able to buy in enough to really enjoy the detailed character development and how well the author set the scene. Really looking forward to the next one!! I will have to thank my friend Jessa for posting about this in FB and inspiring a new read!!
Update to my review: if one is reading the book and not just listening, it sounds like the switching of the character POV can be confusing, so maybe it is a better listen than read...also, in reading another person's review, I was reminded of just HOW much and OFTEN readers will need to suspend their disbelief to really get into this one. ESPECIALLY if you know anything about PTSD, trauma and/or law enforcement or true crime. I did find myself saying “ha! That would NEVER happen IRL” and chuckling, but I agreed to let it go and keep letting the characters and setting draw me in.
Perfect book to bridge 2021-2022...definitely captures all the surreal and “time warp” sensations I can relate during this pandemic. Enjoyed the twists and turns as well.
Another exceptional foray into just how messy, beautifully, complex, intricate, and resilient some humans can be, and how twisted and fucked up we can become if the trauma and damage that humanity can do is not addressed and healed properly. So much truth in one novel, it's almost hard to read, but it's too good to stop reading!! Great read, and so enthralling! Can't wait for the next K. Slaughter to be released...I'll just be here, rereading the Grant County series until then....
Wow, family dysfunction doesn't even begin to explain... but a good read overall lol
Enjoyable and mysterious read. A critical and interesting commentary on “posh” folk, which I can't say I disagree with, but I don't know that I know any “truly posh” people, so...but I enjoyed this twisty/turny adventure. Reminded me a bit of a Ruth Ware novel.
3.5 ⭐️ rounded up to 4. I enjoyed the twists and turns and likes the character development. But once again, some of the scenario and situations are so unrealistic that it takes a lot of suspension of disbelief or just a general lack of awareness around law enforcement and forensics etc, not that I am an expert, but I do have a penchant for true crime and criminology...I also just have a little....annoyance at the adults in the book being so messy, and the kids being burdened with acting as adults...
Whoa, this took a very long time for me to finish. I wanted to like it much more than I did. I got bored in the middle a few times, but it was t terrible, just not as enthralling as I hoped. The story would get interesting and then there would be a very long chapter or two of “background” info that didn't feel as necessary, I wanted more of the interesting a d less of the background.
Excellent and engaging story. Heartbreaking in many ways and a truly insightful testament to what people lived through and survived during the Great Depression and Dustbowl. Well written with characters you can relate to and want to get to know even more. So enjoyed this eye opening work by one of my favorite authors.
Damnit. I don't want it to be over. I found myself cycling through an emotional coaster - laughing, crying, cursing, screaming in surprise, and sitting in tense anticipation throughout the series and in particular throughout Book 3. The story is much too good to end...
