I enjoy Agatha Christie's mysteries very much. This one was especially good. It kept me wondering who the killer was until the end. And, as always, Hercule Poirot was as entertaining and impeccable as always.
Fast paced, but satisfying, quick read. Noir, pulp fiction, crime...oh my! With a couple of callous characters (a bachelor and a femme fatale) and some twists and turns, it has that “I can't put it down” quality. It's really a “bare bones” story (just the facts ma'am); not a lot of figurative language and not a work of prose. It gets right down to business. And the ending - whoa. Hang on - you're in for a rollercoaster ride.
Great story! This reminds me of King's old style writing. Definitely worth the read.
A great book of short stories by a master of science fiction and fantasy. I've only recently been reading Ray Bradbury, but now that I have some of his works under my belt, I can see his influence on some of my favorite authors.
Most of these stories left me with something to think about. They kind of touch a nerve; maybe make you feel like they touch the future. What a scary thought!
Carrie Fisher is known to many as Princess Leia in Star Wars, but she says: “But it isn't all sweetness and light sabres.” She tells us about the ups and downs of her life in this book and there is so much about her that I did not know. Very interesting and a bit of a rollercoaster ride, she tells us in a such a humorous and witty way. It's a good read and not too long.
This is an excellent book. I read it with my 5th graders and most of them loved it. It gives younger students a look into what living during World War 2 would have been like for someone their age. The book is well written, interesting, realistic, and entertaining.
I liked parts of this book and was barely able to tolerate other parts. The story switches back and forth between the present and the past. The part of the story that takes place in the past was very good. The part that takes place in the present is AWFUL. The main character, Sookie, and her horrid mother were the worst. So, I rated the book just “ok” because of the part that takes place in the past.
Good book for a novice at decluttering. Lots of good tips, practical practices, steps to take, etc. Also very good justifications for decluttering. It does bring you some peace and the author explains how and why.
I thought this book was very good. Then I read some things about the inaccuracies in the book. It is historical fiction, so I didn't expect it to be totally accurate. But, I do think that it should be more accurate than it is due to the fact that the history of Auschwitz is so so disturbing and brutal. The treatment of human beings, by other human beings, during this time in history marks a period of time so important, so huge, that it should always be presented as brutal as it was, even in fiction.
Very good book of short stories. Matheson certainly gives you a lot to think about in these stories.
The topic of the book is important and interesting, and will outrage you. It does tend to be repetitive. This book tells of failure in the justice system of Mississippi on so many levels. It definitely makes you think...and wonder.
How in the world does King think of this stuff?! This disturbing and creepy; just what you need to get creeped out.
I listened to the audiobook. It was very interesting and I learned some things about the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Oppenheimer, Tojo, Little Boy and Fat Man that I did not know. This book had much more about the Japanese in it than other books I've read. I liked learning about some of their thoughts and motivations. The footnotes are good too.
Dude couldn't make up his mind; one contradiction after another. Probably something worthwhile in here, but you have to wade through the nonsense to find it. Meh
This book has just about every trigger you can think of (like a lot of Karin Slaughter's work), but it is a great read if you can handle it. The story has strong female characters and lots of twists and turns.
This book was ok. It's just another possession story that follows (mostly) what has become the expected format of possession stories. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either.
It wasn't bad. I enjoyed much of it. I didn't like the way it ended, but it's not really a story; it's a journal, so I guess it's just that way. It just ended, like it was unfinished.
I liked the book. It was different to read a story from the murdered victims' perspective.
