Hated how it started off based of the ending i DIDNT choose in the game but the story is decent although a bit confusing
My last book I will read as a 20 year old! Tomorrow I turn 21! (a very not important age in Australia as 18 is the legal age to drink here so no I will not be getting crazy drunk lol)
I liked this book but wasn't that connected to it. A little unrealistic at times :/
I finally read a book about an autistic character! I have autism (I don't think I mentioned that before) and I suffer through the same things as the dude in this book did (yes I already forgot his name).
I can't touch people and they can't touch me.
I can't detect sarcasm all the time.
I have sensory issues like getting anxious because of loud sounds, I have misophonia which means I hate sound lol, I hate textures, i hate some body movements.
People often label me as a non verbal autistic person but no! I have a seperate problem called selective mutism and that's the reason why I haven't spoken in 20 years, not because of autism! I am on the high functioning end of the spectrum so I'm lucky compared to most but the fight is real. My mutism is what hinders my everyday life so yes I could maybe function in society with my autism, I can't with my mutism so my life has no many options, no future basically.
This book has brought up a lot and I've had to think about my own autism and how I am ashamed to say I have it. We are normal people but every body sees us as dumb, lesser, weird.
I can't wait to read this authors other books!
cant really put my thoughts into words
very very disturbing and sad but didn't really like the writing.
extremely underwhelming.
could not tell the characters apart from one another and they all had no personality.
Spoilers ahead but not really, just vague stuff about the plot twist
the plot twist wasn't predictable, I didn't guess who it was but I would've rather it had been because when it was revealed who did it.. so underwhelming.
It could've of been any other person and it would've been fine but really? boring.
Tips to writers out there: don't name an enemy “the rock”... I didn't imagine a demon entity thing, I imagined Dwayne the rock Johnson. very weird but made the story a bit better for me imo
went into this thinking it was one thing but it surprised me when it was not what I thought.... but I didn't like what the story was about. I didn't like the plot.
The characters made up for everything!! Val is the prettiest fictional character ever and just ughhh I wish she was real
What did I just read???? Kinda stupid and a waste of time but also kind of addictive?
This was my first Lauren Oliver book :( (I think?)
more disturbing than I thought it would be. It really dived into the horrors of surviving a school shooting. It does go into detail of the event which is going to give me nightmares tonight but I liked how much detail it went into!
Truly a disturbing read and it makes my heart hurt for all victims who have been killed and had their life cut short while at a place they felt safe at.
I didn't like some characters, they kind of took me out of the story a bit. I didn't like all the coincidences, it just wasn't realistic. I didn't like the romance but I loved the asexual rep!
Good but not perfect but I ordered the second book before even finishing this one and I'm excited to see what happens next!
as a australian kid who grew up around violence and drug use and is also mute like his brother in this book... this book is my autobiography LMAO
idk what to say about this story.
It was really weird but also a very good message.
also made me super sad lol
didn't really like this sadly. I enjoyed her other book Dept. of Speculation which is why I thought I would enjoy this book too but yeah nah.
very average. It felt like nothing happened the entire book (even though stuff happened) and the whole tone of the book felt so flat and well.. boring.
The plot twist was obvious.
I liked reading it but its not a book ill think about again after today.
it was really good! kinda lost me in the middle of the book but the end was so worth it!
plot twist after plot twist after plot twist.. but that final plot twist? IT MESSED ME UP.
Riley Sager is everyones new favourite author and for good reason, I cant wait to read more of their books
I CANT BELIEVE HOW AMAZING THIS BOOK IS. It's now a new favourite!!
I recommend this to EVERYBODY. I didn't want it to end, I was at the edge of my seat the whole time but also really relaxed while reading this, I fell in love with all the characters.. just wow.
its a stand alone book but the amount of detail that went into these characters was astounding! I want a whole series of these characters :( I'll miss them so much.
This book will stick with me for a while and I will definitely read this again in the future!
I”M IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK.
Also the best character was Bone Goat. I might of cried whenever he showed up. I love you Bone Goat. I now want a pet goat lol
Loved the writing style and the story at first but that plot twist was shit. I don't like where this story is going and I'm debating whether to read the second book or not :/
Read this in April and it still haunts me to this day.. honestly the worst book I've ever read.
Can I please stop seeing this book on my update feed? It just reminds me that this book exists and it makes me regret ever picking up the book.
it was an alright story, a bit flat most of the time.
I do have one big issue though- the age gap relationships were never explained. I love age gaps when both parties are adults. I don't want to read about two men who love this 17 year old girl and who mention “you are so mature for your age” “i'm scared because youre so young...“
This stuff happens irl but when it's fictional the author should at least explain that this is wrong and is not something you should be doing but she didn't.
2.75 stars
It was entertaining sometimes but most of the time I just wanted it to be over. Cassandra Clare books aren't as good as they were back in 2014, I don't know if it's because my taste has changed or if it's because Cassandra Clare has run the shadow hunter world dry.
