I'm counting this as read although I had a disc and a half left when I had to return it to the library. I ended up reading spoilers online. I'm not a huge fan of books where I don't have the slightest hint or clue why the character is doing anything. I though this book was eh, and like always, had almost no likeable characters.
I read this after reading one of the later books in the series and I liked this better. I felt like the characters were much more understandable in this earlier book. Not my favorite cozy mystery series, but an enjoyable listen. I especially like the recipes and descriptions of cooking. The recipes are real life recipes that I'm looking forward to trying in my own kitchen. Especially after hearing about so many cookies - I'm looking forward to having some!
I honestly thought by the description and reviews on this book that it was for an older audience (older YA) but it is clearly not. I got a little dragged down with main character some, but that is to be expected given the target audience. An interesting story that got better as the book went on. Not sure if I will continue to read the series though.
During the first bit of this book I was not amused. I almost gave the book up, but decided to stick with it and I am so glad I did. The story picked up quite a bit with the trip to Guernsey and I began to love the characters. The book made me want a pen pal and to be able to write with Juliet's enthusiasm. Such a sweet and interesting story. I hope for a sequel!
I thought I would give this story a try since I was so enthralled with the Hunger Games Series. I wasn't impressed with the first chapter, but loved the book from there. Suzanne really knows how to write charming characters and help you feel emotion for people, animals, and insects that you didn't think you would care for. I really enjoyed this book and plan to read the rest of the series.
