I especially liked the storyline with her parents, so often parents have no redeeming qualities or are completely absent. We all make mistakes and need a chance to make amends. The prose was magical, the story interesting, and the characters memorable. It had just the right amount of creepy.

This is one of my favorites and least favorites all rolled into one. I gave it five stars so I guess you know which one won. Most of the time Ngiao does not give you time to get to know or like the person that is killed this is not the case in Death in a White Tie. I found I was sad and distracted a bit by his death and a little angry which in the end helped because Chief-Inspector Alleyn was angry too so I got inside his head a bit. I did not like how the plot was appearing to go but in the end I had guessed wrong so it worked out just fine.
I've discovered I enjoy middle-grade mystery, most of the time it is just the right amount of scary for this old scaredy-cat. This was a fun story about friendship, trust, oh and ghosts.
I loved this book. I fell in love with the people and felt like I knew them. My favorite quote from the book is “I can't think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I can't talk to, or worse, someone I can't be slient with.”
This was a great read. I loved the fallible main character. Sometimes she was stupid but I could see why, her sheltered life, her innocence. It was rather painful to have the ‘whiteness' of her life removed one dirty layer at a time however, I enjoyed the book immensely. Brisbane was a bit too good to be believable but I love me a too good to be true hero so it did not bother me too much. I would definitely recommend. Planning on hitting the library tomorrow for the second book.
This collection was tricky for me. It may have been more to do with expectations, but I found several of the stories lacking. It also could be that it started with the best of the lot and things went downhill from there. It was an entertaining read but I was a bit disappointed.
I liked this less then the first one. I still liked the characters but I thought some odd things happened. Still going to give the next book in the series a try.
Martha Grimes is my new favorite cozy writer. I really like her characterizations. I fall in love more and more with Jury and Plant. I love the hypochondriac Wiggins. It is fun, quick, easy what more can you ask from a cozy mystery.
I liked this book. I found it interesting and fun. There were a lot of characters to get mixed up but in the end I didn't mind. I enjoyed the delightful ineptness of Lady Andry and the clever ex-Lord Plant. I loved the charactization of Inspector Jury. All in all I thought it was a great, quick, cozy read.
It maybe unfair to give this book only three stars when I have given others four but I read the others first and this seemed very much the same as other books I have read. I enjoyed it. I learned from it but I don't think I will read it again.
I was really in the mood for a book like this (so I am sure that helped with the five star rating). I really liked Dashti's character it took me until almost the very last entry to like Saren. Overall I think this is a fun quick read.
A nice cozy read. I liked the characters and the plot. It was rushed at the end. I'll read the next book in the series.
Disclaimer I don't read much “horror” although this didn't scare me much. I thought the characters were fairly weak and not very interesting. The premise was interesting but fell flat for me.
I really liked this book. It is a quick read with interesting characters. Near the end it slowed down for me a bit and then wrapped up a bit quickly or else I would have given it five stars. I really liked the twists and the character development.

I started this book out with high hopes and in some ways it delivered which is why I gave it three stars. I really liked the premise. I loved the story of a lost boy being found in the woods blood soaked shoes and his friends missing. I loved how this lost boy all grown up and a murder squad detective is called back to that lonesome town and those mournful woods. I love it.
But it did not work for me in the end. First, I really, really desperately wanted to like Adam Rob Ryan – really. But when he slept with his partner and that very morning gets up and walks out and starts acting like a moody teenager that did it for me as far as being able to like him in any way. I know he had a rough life, I know he is being traumatized by this case bringing up all sorts of emotions and memories about his tragedy as a child but come on she is his best friend and his partner his behavior seemed contrived. I thought his interaction with Sam and with his parents was real. Truthful. And even his initial interactions with Rosalind and Jessica felt right but not for long.
I admit I don't know much about crime scene investigation but honestly the crime lab did not choose to check out the storage places the day of the murder. Twenty yards away and out of bounds. I don't know it seemed like they would have checked the entire site. It just did not make sense to me.
It irked me the way the author pushed it back in the readers face about Rosalind being involved. This is Rob Adam Ryan speaking, “I am intensely aware, by the way, that this story does not show me in a particularly flattering light. I am aware that, within an impressively short time of meeting me, Rosalind had me coming to heel like a well-trained dog: running up and down stairs to bring her coffee, nodding along while she bitched about my partner, imagining like some starstruck teenager that she was a kindred soul. But before you decide to despise me too thoroughly, consider this: she fooled you, too. You had as good a chance as I did. I told you everything I saw, as I saw it at the time. And if that was in itself deceptive, remember, I told you that, too: I warned you, right from the beginning, that I lie.”
Contrary to what the author thinks I did figure out that Rosalind was involved. Right when she tried to seduce Ryan in that instant I knew. It made the whole Cassie spilling her guts story relevant. Hello psychopath.
I am used to books not telling the whole story (and I don't need happy endings) but I felt the author lied. Framed it up to be a story about Adam Rob Ryan and it never really was, the murder that he is called back to head up is solved but the reader never learns one tiny little detail about what happened that summer day back in 1984 when three 12 year olds went running into the woods and only one came back out.
But with all that (which does seem like a lot) I thought Ryan got what he deserved in the end. I was deliriously happy that Cassie and Sam get together. And I read every word which truth be told I don't do often with books I don't like. I think that says a lot about her writing ability and style.
This was a fun read. I decided to read it after playing on online game of the same name and wondering which, the game or the movie, was truer to the book. Oddly enough the online game was a more accurate interpretation. I enjoyed it.
Meh. There were a few anecdotes that I found interesting. I found the concept compelling but the execution was ... meh.
This is an excellent textbook. I liked the short stories at the end of each chapter. I have read many of the authors in college. It was helpful to be given examples at the end of the chapter by successful writers. I thought the writing prompts and lessons were helpful. As I read this book I wanted to highlight and mark and study this book. I didn't (it is the libraries) but I will because I am going to buy it. I think it is a very good resource for the beginning writer.
I enjoyed this book. The idea of the various London's was intriguing. I liked the characters and the storyline. There are more things I want to know so I'll be picking up the second book.
I like Sarah Addison Allen. I like her books. I like her style. The thing that is so strange about what I like best is her subtle use of magic so much so that it isn't really even ‘magic' it just is. This is coming from a person who devours high fantasy like it is candy. I loved the interaction between Josey and Della Lee. In some ways it was so far fetched yet realistically sweet and tender. I fell in love. If I lived next to a beach a definate beach book.
I do not know why but it took me a while to get into this one. But then I fell in love with the characters.
I loved this book. My friends that I have suggested reading [a:Jacqueline Winspear 5023 Jacqueline Winspear http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1272389408p2/5023.jpg] must read this book. It has a great main character and a interesting storyline. It is set in a different era than Winspear, Victorian England, instead of post WWII. It was a quick read mostly because I could not put it down. I was actually reading a different book and my friend gave it to me to read I decided I would read one chapter just to get the feel of it. A day later I returned the book to her. It was that good. The only downside is book 2 doesn't come out until the end of this year.
This is a fun cozy mystery. Now that I know there is a whole slew of Dimity books, I think I'll start at the beginning and just enjoy the ride.

I missed the comparison between Dr Who and Sherlock, I may have read it differently if I had seen it. I liked this book, Jackaby is a misfit with conflicting feelings about humanity but that did not bother me. I enjoyed the story line and I really liked that the main character did not fall immediately for the other main character. I liked how the magic of the world worked. I did see the bad guy coming but was not disappointed in how it all worked out. I will be reading the next books in the series.
