This was a good one!!! A couple of good plot surprises, even one toward the last part of the book! I believe the 1st year of the “Bosch” TV Series is based somewhat on this novel! This is the 2nd M. Connelly book I've read this month and he has turned into one of my favorite authors! Read it, I think you will like it!! David
May be the best book I've read! Lots of surprises, good mystery and good characters. I've started watching the “Bosch” TV series and the actor seems to have the role down pat! If you like a mystery with police procedures, lots of twists and surprises then you will like this! David
My 1st Ebook ever!! This was a great mystery with a surprise ending! Since this book is a Novella there was little wasted parts and story line seemed to go along fast. I now have a new “Favorite Author”!
Read it! David N
I hope I have learned my lesson to stick with the “Mysteries, SF, Suspense Etc Genre”! If I start a book I always finish that book no matter how much I don't like it - I did so with this book and may change my habits from now on! Didn't like the ending at all, It kinda felt like the good guys lost at the end (I won't say what happen). I see that the book is listed as “Christian Fiction”, wish I had known that before I started reading it, just way tooo dull! You may like this book, Not me!! David N.
Really enjoyed this! Fast paced, good characters and a few surprises! Will be checking out more of Vince Flynn's books in the future! David
For my 2nd award winning book of the month I chose Mr. Suicide which won the Bram Stoker Award for best 1st Novel, 2015. No vampires, werewolves etc in this book just 1 crazy teenager! The author keeps you in the teenager's mind through out the book. Very graphic and descriptive but this is a horror book!! This is a good book!! David
I gave this Edgar Award Winning Best Paperback Original (2018) a 5 star rating and wish it could have higher. I've been reading 2 Award Winning Books and 2 Classics each month for the past 3 months and I've had nothing but great success with all the books except for “Frankenstein”! This is a great mystery, good characters and a couple of big twists! Why would a woman not try to defend herself in a 1840's England court if she did not do the crime? This will keep you wondering thru out the book! If you're a mystery lover, grab this book! David N.
This is the 2nd Merry and Bright Handcrafted Mystery book I've read! The 1st was absolutely great and I would have given this book a rating of 5 if not for 1 single page in the book. If I was to tell you it may be considered a spoiler so I will leave it out. However it changed my whole opinion of the main character and now not sure if I want to read the next one in the series! There was a great mystery in the book and you will probably like it for that but one page ruined this 6 day read for me! David N
I have a 3 month trial offer with Amazon Unlimited EBooks! I thought I would try this book 1st, since it had a 4.5 rating at Amazon and was only 280 pages. You can get this for $4.99 if not a member.
I must say I really liked the book! Lady killer, killing off all the guests that stayed at a hotel the same time she was there, what was the reason and what did those guests have in common. It starts off a bit slow but keeps building suspense thru out the book - Also a big surprise at the end! The main FBI agent is a dog lover, I'm not, but I still gave it a 5. Try this book for a short good read! David N.
Lots of suspense, not a whole lot of mystery! Did not like the Constantine character at all, way too many wise cracks!!
I gave this book a 4 star but I hated the book!! This is the kind of book for “Cozy Mystery Reads” and
I didn't know that. If you want to know how to pick out a halloween costume, different cookies, deliver a baby calf etc then you would like this. The mystery in the book was not much and took up very little pages! Most people gave this book a 4 and if you are looking for a new cozy read mystery series this is for you! David N
For my 1st award winning book for 2019, Edgar award for 2017 for Best Paperback Original! Takes place in Ireland in the 1980's (Had a bit of trouble with some of the Irish slang) and this is book 5 in a series of Detective Sean Duffy books! Woman found dead in a castle where there is no way in or out!!
How was it done and why!! Great mystery, Read the Book! David N
This is my 1st classic read for 2019 and it was good!! Takes place in early 1930's in the rural South.
Poor, uneducated share croppers having no income and trying to survive on farming!! I'm not good at giving reviews but if you want to get a “Feel” of what it was like back then, Read the Book!! David N.
I don't normally read SF or Fantasy but this was only 90 pages so I thought I would give it a try!
I can't believe it but I really enjoyed this. I'm 72 years old and can't understand alot of the SF books that come out but this was easy and very enjoyable. I think this is No. 1 in a new series and I will be looking for # 2 when it appears! David N.
This has to be the best book I've read this year!! Lots of suspects, great characters & some twists & surprises in it! 300 pages (Don't like long books)! Found myself sneaking an extra 10 minutes of reading time each day! Try the book! David N.
I gave this book a 4 so others won't be turned off by it! I should have read what the book was about 1st and I would not have read it. The mystery was good, characters were good and most people who like cozy mysteries will like this. However I didn't like the location the book was about. (The Hollywood Scene). That was the only reason I did not like the book, I should start doing better research before I start reading a new book! David N
1999 Nebula Award Winner for Best Novella! 100 Pages. I normally have trouble understanding SF books but this was easier. Teen girl living on Mars with parents is sick and can only be cured by returning to Earth which she is against! Quick 3 hr. read and great ending! David N.
I've read 1 book in the series & decided om this book! Not a bad mystery at all. There are a lot of characters thrown at you in the 1st 10 pages & had to write them down on paper w relationship to the main character. Couple of surprises in the book and overall a good cozy read! David N
I don't feel this was as much a mystery then a Suspense, Romance novel. I liked the location, Snow country in Maine. Characters were good & though I don't like suspense novels, this book kept my interest!! David N.
I thought I would try a short mystery (90 Pages) and really enjoyed this. Private detective goes to Utah for a vacation at Christmas. After a few days receives info about the death that happened a few years previously of her husband - a policeman! This is a fast pace read and also a clean book, no offensive language I noticed (Not that it matters to me). Good 3 day read (Slow reader) - Try it, Only 99 cents at Amazon. David N.
Nice feel good cozy mystery, 150 pages, no bad language! In this story there really is a Santa, Mrs Claus, Elves and an entire Christmas community! Lady has accident in car and Mrs. Claus rescues her and takes her to her town. Rescued lady in turn help town solve a murder mystery! I'm a slow reader and took me 5 days but most readers could finish this in 2! If you like the Holiday season you should like this! David N.
I did not like the general background of fishing/logging industry but after about 25% into the book the characters got into me and I really found this to be a good mystery. Did not like the fact the main character has a troubled past, but it seems that is getting to be a trend in mysteries now! Lots of suspects and a bit of a thriller at end! This is a 1st in a new book series, give it a read! David N.
Watch the series on TV and enjoyed and thought I'd try the book. Book of course was even better. Great mystery, characters & lots of crime procedures. Read the books first, then watch the 4 seasons of Cardinal, each season (6 Episodes) relates to 1 book! Great actors and scenery of Canada. David N.
This is a great book to start a new series! 220 pages, great characters, mystery! You don't know who to trust or who is hiding secrets! Reads like a “Soap Opera TV Series”. I'll read book 2 in Jan/21! David Navratil
I've read the 1st 2 books in the series and enjoyed them, however there are a few problems with this 3rd book.
I'm a mystery addict and love a whodunit but there are times when authors just throw too many suspects and subplots into a book. After about the 1st 2 chapters I had to use a large pc of writing paper to try to keep up with all the characters, relationships to each other etc. If you can handle a book like this you will love it!
My biggest complaint is that the whole story takes place in Indiana during the summer time. A movie studio is filming a Christmas story and needs the main character (Merry) to help with decorations and crafts. I can't understand why the author could not have used the 1st 2 books location and the story happening during the period between Thanksgiving & Christmas! If I'm reading a cozy mystery centered around Christmas I want it to take place during that period!
I also think that the author could start adding a little romance into the main character. She seems cold as ice when it comes to romantic involvement!
Most of the author's fans will like this book and I do believe I will continue reading the series and maybe try 1 of here other series! This book however was just a bit of a let down for me!
