This book was immersive from the first page.
Kagen is a Captain sworn to protect the children of the Empress. After a night of off duty drinking, he wakes to find the city has been invaded by the Hakkians.
He has to fight his way to the children. What he finds is gruesome. He is devastated. He has failed.
His oaths are broken and his Gods have turned their backs on him. He is truly damned.
This story is brutal, graphic and very grim. It is also fantastic! The more I read, the less I wanted it to end. I can't wait to see where this goes in the next book. I was very shocked by the ending. I loved it!
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an early copy.
This is a very unique tale of revenge filled with middle-aged heroines.
Since hitting menopause, three very different women realize they have developed certain abilities. Many times in their lives, they have each had bad experiences with men. Some were unwanted advances, and some were just men that thought they were smarter than all women. Either way, the days of putting up with those behaviors are over.
Something will bring these women together and they will begin to build a better world.
I loved this! These characters are fantastic! I love the chemistry between these women. Such great friendships. The wit and humor were very well done.

3.5 stars
YA has been really hit or miss for me lately, but I actually enjoyed this one. The world is pretty interesting, but not enough world building. I think this would have been much better with more of it.
I really liked the different Grisha magics.
Even though I enjoyed most of it, there were still a few eye rolling moments that brought my rating down (fawning over the darkling).
I still plan to continue the series.
This is my first time reading anything by this author. I loved it! Now I have to read all of his other works.
I was fascinated by the world and the magic right from the start. The cast of characters is amazing.
Not just the MC, but all of them. I love the sisters! They are so different, yet equally formidable.
I can't wait to see what happens in the next book, especially with the new player that arrived at the end.
Thank you to Net Galley and Orbit for the e-arc.
This really could've been a 5 star read for me. I loved the magic, characters, and the politics. However, I could not stand that from one minute to the next, the MC was getting chills from a different guy's touch. It really took me out of the story. I just wanted her to make up her mind and get on with the war. Leave all that nonsense out and I would give a better rating. I loved everything else. Hopefully there won't be as much of that drivel in the next one.
This is the first book that I've read from this author. Sadly, I thought it was just average. I'm pretty bummed about it because I was so excited for this one. I enjoyed the characters and I really liked the different types of magic each House used. Other than that, I was kind of bored.
Thank you to Net Galley for the e-arc.
This sounded so good to me. A Great Gatsby retelling, with witchy vibes. Sadly, it was not for me. I loved the atmosphere, but I was so bored! The only characters I liked at all were Nathan and Isobel and they aren't MC's. I didn't like any of the other characters at all. If this wasn't a review copy, I would not have finished it.
Thank you to Net Galley for the e-arc.
I'm not a romance fan, but I do love the fae, so I decided to give this a try.
I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either.
I actually liked Fortuna and the King, but I think Laurie is my favorite character. I liked him enough to continue the series.
There isn't any world building, but I think that's understandable since it takes place mostly in the Unseelie Court.
I really liked the narrator.
Thank you to Net Galley for the audio review copy.
