This is a fantastic adventure story about four children that have to learn to survive in the jungle after their plane crashes.
I really enjoyed this. It's an adventure story, but it also has themes that make you think. I loved these characters. I listened to some of it and the narrator is fantastic. I especially liked his voice for Max.
If you like middle grade, give this one a shot.
This book sounded so interesting to me. Alternate London with Angels, werewolves and vampires. A Sherlock Holmes retelling. That sounds amazing.
Sadly, it wasn't my favorite. Even with all the supernaturals, it wasn't anything special. It was ok, but I wasn't wowed.
I received a copy from Net Galley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Vasya can no longer stay home. After everything that happened in The Bear and the Nightingale, she sets off on a journey. She wants to be free and see the wonders of the world. She also wants to see her brother and sister again. But, as a female, her choices are very limited. She is expected to marry or live out her days in a monastery. She would rather die than do either of those things. So, to be free, Vasya will just have to be a boy. So, disguised as a boy she sets off to Moscow.
I loved this as much as the first book. The folklore is so fascinating. I love the characters, the setting, just everything about it.
Gin Blanco is the former assassin known as The Spider. She is retired and now owns The Pork Pit barbecue restaurant. One thing to quickly bring her out of retirement? Somebody stalking a woman and trying to force her into a relationship against her will. Gin might be deadly, but she always feels the need to help those that can't protect themselves.
I loved this. It's fast paced, full of action with amazing characters. I couldn't give it 5 stars just because of the eye-rolling sexual innuendo. Have I mentioned that I'm not a romance fan? Other than that, I loved it. I will definitely continue the series.
I love stories about Baba Yaga and any Russian folklore. I've been in a reading slump for a couple of weeks. This finally got me out of it.
Baba Yaga goes by the name Barbara Yager in this story. It's just easier and doesn't call as much attention. She has also upgraded her house with chicken legs to an Airstream. Again, it doesn't call as much attention to her. Since she goes where she is needed, it's also a much easier way to travel.
Now she has been called to a small town because some children are missing. Hopefully she will find them alive.
I really enjoyed this. The romance didn't even bother me. I will definitely continue the series.
This is the Middle Grade Monthly pick for June. I'm not a mystery fan, but thought I'd give it a shot.
I shouldn't have. I didn't like this one. I was bored. The writing is probably good, it just wasn't for me.
If you like mystery, give it a go. I personally need some kind of fantastical elements to keep me interested.
I absolutely loved this book! I am a big fan of fantasy with the school/academy trope. I also love following a character from the time their abilities first manifest to adulthood. This book had a lot of my favorite things. The magic is great. I loved this world. I can just imagine the towns in trees with connecting bridges. I can't wait to read the next one!
I thought this book sounded really good. Then I read some of the mixed reviews. I saw it on Net Galley and decided to form my own opinion and then decide if I want to buy a copy.
I really liked it! I loved these characters from the start. Nina, Ettie, and Montparnasse are just some of my faves. Lady Corday is both frightening and brilliant.
I found the Courts intriguing, and the heists were so much fun to read about.
I will definitely be buying a copy.
I received a copy from Net Galley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another 5 glorious stars for Robin Hobb! I absolutely loved this book!
I find the concept of wizard wood to be brilliant. The Liveships are so interesting. I love Althea and Wintrow. I detest Kyle and Malta. I could just picture Bingtown. And I can't wait to hear more about the Rain Wilders.
This is quite the chunker, but it is so good that I flew through it. I'm so glad I finally read this.
This one was hard for me to rate. While I love Russian folklore, and reading about the Romonovs, this was not my favorite. I thought it was beautifully written, but the characters just weren't very likable. I didn't really like the magic either. I liked the writing style, but not enough to continue with the series. Like I said, I had trouble with this rating. I'm feeling generous.
This one started out pretty slow for me. Then I felt like stopping because everyone they came across was just rambling on, and the gibberish started to get on my nerves. Not sure if it was my mood or the book. I decided to keep reading, and I'm glad I did. I loved the dragons and the ending. They redeemed the book for me.
Stella is being watched. She knows she's being watched by the witch puppet, and now a giant bird is watching her too. When Felix is snatched, she knows for certain that Jezzybella is behind it all. She killed Stella's birth parents and now she's trying to take Felix from her as well. There's really only one thing to do. Go on an expedition to Witch Mountain and get him back.
This was such a fun read! I loved it! These characters are so great. I loved Witch Mountain, all the faeries, the walrus, the camel, all of it. It made me laugh, and who doesn't need that?
This is a beautifully written story following a young girl named Minli. Her family lives in a very poor village with barely enough to eat. Every day she sees her mother get more and more beat down by their poverty. Minli decides to go on a journey to see if she can make life better for her family. She will find the Old Man on the Moon and ask him how to change their fortune.
This is such a beautiful story! A magical tale filled with Chinese folklore. A must read if you like middle grade. I loved it!
I really like this one. However, I felt like I was missing something. After I finished reading it, I realized that it is a companion to another series. I wish I would've read the other series first to possibly get some of the back story. I think I'll read the first series then maybe my rating of this will go up.
I still really liked it. The characters are great. The magic is interesting as well.
I really enjoyed this! This is the only book I have read by this author but, I plan to change that.
Ryx lives with her Grandmother in Gloamingard. Ryx has faulty magic that kills anyone or anything she touches. Her Grandmother is a powerful mage, so she can still touch Ryx without it killing her. That is why Gloamingard is the safest place for her to be.
Gloamingard Castle has a Black Tower. No one but her Grandmother knows what is in there. All anyone knows is that it must be guarded. It must stay closed. It has been that way for thousands of years.
With people arriving from other countries for peace talks, it is even more imperative to guard the Black Tower.
This is fast-paced, full of political intrigue, and packed with interesting magic. I can't wait for the next one.
I received a copy from Net Galley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really love this series and I'm glad it didn't slow down in book 3. I love the different types of supernaturals that Jane has to deal with. I love all the politics, whether it's vamp politics, were politics, or whatever else. These are just fun reads. I listened to most of it, and Khristine Hvam is great. Definitely will continue the series.
Even though I didn't love this as much as the first two books, I still think it deserves 5 stars. Robin Hobb is brilliant and the characters alone are 5 star worthy. I love this world so much. I just didn't expect the Elderlings to be what they were. I thought that whole part was kinda trippy. That being said, I am still excited to continue on. Also, I loved Kettle! The narrator did a fantastic job, especially with Kettle. It made the experience even more enjoyable.
