I love stories about Baba Yaga and any Russian folklore. I've been in a reading slump for a couple of weeks. This finally got me out of it.
Baba Yaga goes by the name Barbara Yager in this story. It's just easier and doesn't call as much attention. She has also upgraded her house with chicken legs to an Airstream. Again, it doesn't call as much attention to her. Since she goes where she is needed, it's also a much easier way to travel.
Now she has been called to a small town because some children are missing. Hopefully she will find them alive.
I really enjoyed this. The romance didn't even bother me. I will definitely continue the series.
Barbara Yager is one out of three women in the United States who hold the title of Baba Yaga. They are entrusted with the job of guarding the gateway between worlds and keeping balance. I was excited to read this book. The American retelling of Baba Yaga known as [b:Bony-Legs 769265 Bony-Legs Joanna Cole https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1328835724s/769265.jpg 1282657] was one of my favorite books growing up. But this book fell short. This book had good bones. The plotline and characters were developed but not well executed. My biggest issue was the romance or lack thereof. It felt like an afterthought, forced, and rushed. With a pathetic attempt at sexual tension. Female MC: 4/5Male MC: 2/5Scratch that Itch: 0/5, sex scenes were written like a poem. Dreamlike and full of cliche metaphors.World Building: 2/5Plot: 3/5Other Characters: 3/5
