This is another series that I plan to read this year. It's actually been on my bookshelf for years. I guess new books always sound good, so I put the classic fantasy on the bottom of my reading list. Big mistake! I loved this book. I loved reading about them at school. I loved the world. I was fascinated by all the islands with their wizard to help them. Ged and Vetch are now among my favorites.
I love books that seem to be a slow burn. Some don't like it, but I love books like this. I love to take my time and get every detail out of it. Highly recommend this one.
Amora is the heir to Visidia. In order to secure her place as the next High Animancer, she has to perform her magic for the kingdom to prove she is worthy. When she fails to control her magic, she has to run. While on the run, she travels to other islands in her kingdom and finds that everything she believed about magic and the other islands is all a lie.
I enjoyed this, but it is full of tropes. Some I enjoy, some not so much. It is also very predictable. I did enjoy the different magics, and the pirate vibes. I am still interested to see where the series goes.
I enjoyed the graphics, and the story was pretty good, but this just wasn't my favorite. I'm pretty new to graphic novels and I just need to figure out what I like. I don't have anything bad to say about this, it just wasn't for me.
I received a copy from Net Galley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 stars
When I first read the blurb for this book, I knew it was a must-read. I was not disappointed. I loved it!
I'm a big fan of witchy books, and this was so much fun.
I loved the Celtic mythology throughout the book.
The characters are amazing. Loved all the witches in the coven. Each with their own unique personality that blended so well together.
Not quite a 5 star read, but close. I would definitely recommend this if you enjoy witch stories.
I can't wait for more.
This is a beauty and the beast retelling with parallel worlds.
I loved this! Not quite enough for 5 stars, but I still really enjoyed it. I loved Rhen's world. I didn't care much about Harper's world. I enjoyed the characters, Grey is my favorite.
The ending killed me! I immediately ordered the next one.
This is a wonderful, magical story.
Xar is a Wizard with no magic. He decides that if he kills a witch, he can steal her magic. But, witches are extinct.
Wish is a Warrior. Warriors hate magic and destroy anything magical that enters their woods.
Their paths collide for a magical adventure.
I loved this. I went back and forth between physical and audio, and both are fantastic. The physical copy has great illustrations. The audiobook is even better. David Tennant is amazing! It was so much fun to listen to because of the narrator, and also hearing the wind whipping, and the explosions. It was great. I will definitely continue on with the series.
This book is fantastic.
The skaa are slaves to the Empire. They are treated horribly. They are starved and beaten. If one catches a Nobleman's eye, they are killed after being raped to ensure there are no half-breeds.
There are also skaa thieves. They survive by stealing from the Nobleman and running scams on the Nobleman.
Vin is one of those thieves. She is also mistreated. But she is mistreated by the other skaa in her crew. When Kelsier enters her life, that will all change. Kelsier is Mistborn.
I loved everything about this book. The magic system is amazing. I loved the characters so much. I can just picture the world with all the ash. Such an amazing story. I can't believe I had this masterpiece on my shelf for so long before reading it.
When the king dies, his son must “slay” a dragon and save the damsel. Then he becomes king and marries the damsel. That's the tradition anyway.
This book is disturbing. The story itself was ok, but the many references to the prince's “yard” were crazy. I actually laughed at those parts although I don't think that was the intention. The women are just property or “vessels “. Like I said, disturbing. That stuff aside, it was ok.
Allesandra knows what she wants and will not let anything stand in her way. She wants the Shadow King. Actually she just wants his kingdom.
I had a lot of trouble coming up with a rating for this one. I still have a lot of mixed feelings about it. The writing is very simplistic, so it was a quick read. There's really no world building. It was very predictable. Even with the many flaws, I still had fun reading it.
Robin was raised to stay away from magic. Now that she lives with her uncle that has a demon in the library, apparently that's no longer possible.
This was a fast read. I enjoyed it. I like this type of book between epic fantasies because there's not a lot to process. It's just a fast, fun read. I plan to continue the series.
3.5 stars
Anya and her family are the only Jews in her village. The magistrate hates Jews and wants them out. If they don't come up with a bunch of money soon, he will take their land.
Ivan and his family have come to the village to hunt the last dragon. They will give Anya the money her family needs if she helps them kill it.
I enjoyed this. It was slow at times. I loved the characters. I am still excited for the next one.
I don't know if it's because of the stressful times we're in right now or what, but I was so immersed in this story that I was able to forget about it all for a while. I absolutely loved it! This has been on my shelf for a while, and I just wasn't ever in the mood for it. Not sure what I was expecting, but this was amazing! The writing is fantastic, but the characters are probably my favorite part. I just can't say enough great things about this book. If you like fantasy, read it!
I really enjoyed this.
This book takes place in the future. There's no disease, aging, and nobody dies. Unless they are gleaned. Death is decided by Scythes. They must fulfill their quotas and glean people to keep the population in check.
I thought the concept was really interesting. I really liked Citra and Rowan. I am excited to continue the series.
