Book 4 of Summer Reads: A bit confusing, disappointing. Wanted to read it because it's been made into a movie I wanted to see starring Diane Lane, Elizabeth Banks, and Dakota Fanning....now not so sure I'll see it.
The Road to Bittersweet was beautifully written just like the other books I have read of Everhart's, but boy were there A LOT of hardships that this family had to endure. 14 year old Wallis Ann who had to be resposbile for so much at her age was the best part of the story and I kept rooting for her. It was hard to read at times because it is so sad, and because it is such a long story. Yes, there was a “happy ending” but I wish it came sooner.
Horrible! I love me a good mystery/thriller but... Any rape is atrocious, but way too much of it in this story of an abduction. I couldn't finish and I am only on page 63. I jumped through the story to see when things were getting resolved and it's not until well after page 250.
Let's remember we are all still in the middle of the messy, beautiful work of becoming.-

I'm not sure how to describe this book. It was unusual, the way it was written with its use of the pronouns they/them instead of him/her. It enlightened on the discussion about gender we are hearing these days; vocabulary such as binary, agender, cisgender, and genderqueer. The devastation of the 2 families saddens me, as well as the disappointment in our “good ol justice system. An informative, educational read, that's for sure.
I came across this on BookBub and thought I'd give it a try since it was so cheap. It was a very intriguing story, and so different from the thrillers and mysteries I like to read. I enjoyed “watching” the characters develop and you can help but love and root for the main character. I would have given it a 4, but I didn't like the way the story ended and everything got wrapped up so quickly.
I love Kruger's style of writing! His description of the setting and development of his characters is topnotch!
What the heck just happened!?! At first this book grabbed me & I thought I was about to read a great suspenseful story. Halfway way in it became so confusing, but I kept on reading anyway. Thank goodness I didn't pay for this; I made it to the end and I'm still baffled, but not in a good way.
Speaking as someone who is NOT a dog person, this book was quite a special story. Tellung the story from the perspective of a dog with a big, loving heart was genious!
A sweet story, just a little confusing with the back and forth of characters and time periods.
I was intrigued by the he plotline and it was free with Amazon Prime, so I gave it a go. I loved the characters and the setting. This story had so much potential, but it was a bit too jumbled and wordy.
Read at your own risk! A very twisted and macabre story! It was a uniquely crafted story that had me glued from beginning to end.
I've had this book on the shelf for years! I finally took it out to read because I wanted to hold a real book in my hands, and I'm glad I did. I've always loved Beth Moore, a Christian Bible Study author and speaker, she has a way with words and knows the Bible like the back of her hand. She proved to also capture the reader's attention with her eloquent fictional writing, hosting a cast of quirky characters in a unique setting of a church turned into small apartments. Along with that, a good mystery to be solved!
Heartbreaking! Redemptive! Traumatiic! Why do i read books like this!? Beautiful writing, character development is outstanding, plot is intense!!!
Bizarre, disturbing story, but had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen.
I decided to read this book before the movie comes out. I almost gave this book a 4, but the cheesy, unrealistic dialogue between Lily and Ryle before they married almost had me abandon this book. However, Lily's journal and Atlas kept me going. You'll know what I mean if you choose to read this book. I'm on to the sequel now, only because of Atlas.
Found a new author to read! Charles Martin writes beautifully and has the reader captivated immediately! His characters are flawed, looking for hope, and finding their way through life! I will read more of Martin!
Book 3 of summer reads! A heartbreaking story, but the way Lisa Genova intertwines the love and resilience of a family during such a tragic disease is inspiring. She made it about life, not death.
Very different, certainly makes you think about death and trying to live life to the fullest.
