Went on too long...skimmed through last few chapters...did they ever find the girls???
William Kent Kruger sure knows how to weave a story together and keep you wanting more. One reason I loved this story is because I had already gotten to know the main character, Cork, as an adult through reading all of Kent's Cork O'Connor series, so it was like coming home to a beloved character and seeing him as a child explained so much.
Take My Hand is based on the unbelievable, but true, story of Minnie and Mary Relf. This took place in the 70's, when things like this should not have been happening to any human being! I cannot express how angry the government's involvement in this makes me, the thinking that they know better, taking control of a woman's reproductive system becasue of race and/or class.
Makes me wonder what is happening now that we don't know about?

Good advice from Grams, “Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.” I read some bad reviews about this book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's different than so many of the other books I typically read. Prose's character Molly reminds me of some people I know and she is just delightful!
Lisa Gardner always knows how to change up her writing so that it is not so predictable. Frankie is a lost soul and trying to find redemption.
Absolutely delightful!! Loved watching Mary Jane's eyes open into a world so unlike her own, and so enjoyed that parts of this story just made me laugh out loud.
I always look forward to a new book by this author, however I am highly disappointed in this one. Dialogue trite, and story was going nowhere. I didn't bother to finish it.
I'm not sure what I think...The story took such a turn, as did the characters. I didn't find it all believable and did not buy into all of the transformation of the characters. I feel the author tried to shove too much into the plot line and I found much of the dialogue “clunky.” However, I did like the nature settings and the premise that nature can be healing.
Spoiler ahead:
Such a sad, tragic story about the death of a little child. I hated what happened, but couldn't stop reading. I suppose hope kept me reading...at first, that everything would be okay. Then there were such twists and I wanted to know how such a thing could go as far as it did. Horrible!!!
Well, I was held in suspense for about 3/4 of the book, but then it just went downhill from there. I like Kubica's thrillers/mysteries, but the ending of this one hit the mark for me. I wouldn't waste my time if I were you.
Kept my attention at first, suspenseful and I wanted to know what happened to the women. However, the dialogue between characters was lacking, plot became choppy and unbelievable-characters had no depth. The end tied it all up, but I'll let you make up your mind if you choose to read it.
Something about McMahon's writing draws you in, even though the plot may seem absurd and unbelievable. Her stories are hauntingly beautiful. I actually was afraid to go to sleep at night after reading this book, gave me chills.
Matthew Kelly's writing is so conversational.
3 takeaways (and reminders) I copied from another review:
1) Next time you sense danger, uncertainty, discouragement, anger, just repeat the name of Jesus over and over, slowly.... “Jesus”....”Jesus”...“Jesus”
2) ASK God/Jesus/The Holy Spirit to come and ‘sit next to you' throughout your day; while doing dishes, while driving, folding laundry. It's the ‘little' times when we can also spend time with God.
3) Go deep. Schedule time, if you need to, with God. Would you answer the phone in the middle of a conversation with God? No!
My 4 star rting is because I didn't hear God Laugh in this book until the last part, and the title is why I bought this book!
Hannah's historical fiction novels always prompt me to research more about the era to learn a bit more of the topic. I can't stop reading about it! knew of the Dust Bowl and it's hardships (understatement) before reading this book, but Hannah made it come alive.
I love the Will Trent series. However, this book was just too choppy. Characters actions just didn't jive with me based on previous books.
Why do I do this to myself! The idea of the plot was good, but the story was written so poorly!I don't know if I can say I really read this book since I skimmed so much of it, just to get to he end. Spare yourself the trite dialogue and stupid characters. I vow to no longer download free or discounted books!
One of my favorite authors; I didn't know he had a new one out!! So excited!
Update: I love Martin's writing, but boy this story went on forever!! The details about driving a boat went way over my head, but I did love all the other descriptive writing.
Loved this story! The Book of Lost Names is full of history, love, redemption, hope, forgiveness, and as well as the horror and the beauty that life is so full of.
As I was reading, I kept thinking I had maybe read this already. But then I realized I hadn't and that it reminded me of Verity-stories are very similar in some ways. It was a page turner though, as I needed to find out what the heck was going on! It was a lot like watching a scary movie with stupid people making stupid mistakes. When you think you're seeing red flags, trust yourself-you are!
I love the friendships that the author developed with her characters. Reading Ginny's journal was the best part of the book.
Yay! One of my favorite authors has a new book out! So far, so good!
Well, now I'm finished! It was a good story, a fast read, however many predictable parts. A little disappointing compared to some of the author's previous books. A common thread in the last few books I've read it how damaging secrets can be, how assumptions and lack of communication only create more problems.
