I would give this a solid 3 stars.
I went in with pretty low expectations from the hype and therefore generally enjoyed the read. It's fun, fast paced, and there's dragons. Yay. I'm ok with the spicy stuff - although the latter chunk of the book felt more teenage than I would have preferred.
A bit of a slow burn but damn L.F. knows how to get you with the twists. The gloomy atmosphere was immaculate but the main character got a bit tedious at times. Or maybe she just felt a bit dumb at times.
I would give it a solid 3.5 stars: it has some problems but still worth a read!
DNF. Norse word salad with un-engaging main characters. Maybe it would be a better physical read... could just be a boring narration.
Ties up some strings from the previous books, but I found the transitions pretty clunky and jarring. It was definitely much slower and I had a hard time keeping interest through the first half. I did listen to the audiobook - maybe a physical read would be better.
I would give this 3.5 stars probably. Second half is great, first half is dead boring. I almost didn't keep reading, but I'm glad I did.
An interesting concept with potential, but most of the characters are pretty one dimensional. Add in a verrryy slow build and the book was just... okay. Lila was enjoyable but pushed the campiness boundary - she almost became a parody of herself at times. I REALLY wished for more dynamic characters in Kell and the villains - everyone was just meh.
I procrastinated reading this book for a few years for obvious reasons... it's hard yet truthful.
This is one of the best books I've ever read.
The only interesting part of this book is the general concept of how the aliens take over earth. But then you get annoying characters and repetitive, boring narrative.
I listened to the audiobook, making it easier to tune out the tedium and poorly written dialogue/narration
