This was such an interesting read. It shows how lucky we are to have what we have and what we can learn from others and our past. This is a really a Bildungsroman.
I loved this book, not quite as much as the first one... I'm still biting my nails waiting for the next one.
SOAP BOX ALERT !! While reading this book I'd get so angry I couldn't sleep and I'd have to put it down for a while. It was so hard to hear about how desperate people are to make sense of things and in the process they grasp at anything to explain their struggles. I would get so angry at the profit that some individuals make from half-baked science and take advantage of the desperate. I'm so glad I read this book and I wish I could get everyone to read it and make choice based on understanding rather than fear.
I was inspired to read this book by my husband who is a manager. It was a refreshing view on endings and how they are not always negative. It's a great reminder to let go prune that which is good but not great, sick or dying or dead.
I'm totally hooked. This books have been me of the better dystopians I've read. It's interesting how society changes when love is considered a contagious disease.
I struggled at the beginning of this book. I felt so depressed by the situation of the main character. As the story grows she becomes stronger. It's fun to see her go after her own happiness.
I couldn't put this book down. It's a great adventure with a kick but heroine. I'm not sure I agree with it being a young adult book. I think the opening scene is a bit too scary and dark for most young teenagers.
Once again I was snared by the adventures of Percy Jackson. I know that the series is continuing on and it's sort of like a formula now, but I still like it.
This book inspires me to be better. I didn't like it as much as Andy Andrew's other books but still a good reader.
This book had a slow start that was hard to get into. I stuck with it since I'm such a big Garth Nix fan. It got better as the book picked up pace. It's certainly written for young readers but as preteen or Jr. High student this book would have been a little too scary for me.
I really enjoyed this story it was imaginative and fun. I didn't really like that it's a children's/adolescent book and it has a lot cuss words in it. I know kids hear worse everyday, but they don't need it in the books they read.
Wow, this is a life changing book. I will have to revisit it often, perhaps yearly. I really hope I can learn to apply a lot of these principles. This is a great book I'd recommend to my family and friends.
Short easy read. Beautifully written but very slow paced and dull. A wonderful Halloween Classic.
A great story that's hard to put down. I enjoyed the characters and the action in this book.
This is a very interesting and creative story very true to Orson Scott Card's writing style.
I don't think I'll be raising my kids the “Chinese” way, but it makes me question the “Western” way as well. A great story I enjoyed it, and it made me think about a lot of things.
This is a very well written story presented in letters that the characters write to each other. The story is very interesting. The main characters remind me of the mean girls in high school rather than “dignified ladies” of the time period. I agree with one reviewer who said: “there is nothing polite about Lady Susan.”
It appears to have been made into a film: ‘‘Love and Friendship” which may be worth checking out.
