So unfortunate that I didn't like this one as much as the first... I will try to continue to the next book, but I'm not in a rush.
I put this one on my TBR because the synopsis is interesting and I heard some good things, but something about aliens always makes me hesitate. Well, I was in a PNR/UF reading mood and people told me to give it a try.
I'm so glad that I did! I'm also really sad that there are so many holds on the next book!! I really want to read the next one.
This book is funny and honestly doesn't take itself too seriously. There are moments where it feels like the author was having fun writing it, and I was totally down for that. Kitty can be a little too OP when she takes command and just naturally knows what to do, which was honestly one of the only things I had a problem with... she just knew what to do every time.
It was also a bit too insta-lovey for my taste, buuuutttt I really didn't mind. Her attraction grows throughout the book, so it isn't instant and she likes him for who he is, not just his looks. A bit of a love triangle rolls eyes the second thing I disliked about the book. I didn't think it played well and I disliked the dude's actions towards her which she was magically supposed to understand as him liking her. Um, no. I do believe the romance will continue to get better though. I'm looking forward to it.
So, yes, I'm looking forward to reading another book involving aliens. Who would have guessed?! If you like paranormal books with romance and humorous moments, you should give this a try.

It is hard to read about these teens being so judgey and they feel really early high school. I dislike the characterizations and mostly the book is them just...chilling and going with the flow instead of trying to figure out how to get home.
A wonderful addition to the series. I really really enjoyed this one, although I hate who the bad group ended up as. I get it, and it all makes sense. The inclusion of semi-magic into the world – people with some psychic abilities, seems weird to me, but I'm down. I wonder if this will affect any of the future books.
Dnf@ 3% because omg why is an assassin saying “unaliving” and not just saying kill? I think we can all assume books regarding assassins and hit men will have death in them so using kill is a-okay. Isn't killed just not used on TT because of censors?
Anyhow just couldn't get into it, but since I'm so early on I won't rate.
Love love loved this book. Definitely going to read the second one soon. If you like JR Wards BDB series I really think you will enjoy this book.
Re-read June 2017
moved this from 5 stars to 3 stars. I was not a huge fan. What did I love before? A pushy guy who can make a woman orgasm multiple times and for some reason loves her and she loves him because... ???
But, I still liked the set up, a bit. I'll keep reading to see if it gets better. I think I'm kinda over these types of books.
Super fluffy! I wasn't sure about starting this one at first because I didn't think I'd be a fan of the catfishing plot, but somehow it ended up being okay. I laughed, giggled, and ended up loving the characters. Some second-hand embarrassment, but there were only 2 chapters that had me speed-reading through to get through the pain of embarrassment.
Really do love this author~
I liked the couple's dynamic and the injustice they fight against, but something about this book just isn't as strong for me. Also, why are we saying “we will unalive them” when they are murderers and torturers? It's such a weird thing. Unalive just took me right out, but I guess I don't understand the shift towards using that word instead of killed, especially in this context with darker material. Saying kill/ed can't be as bad as torture/d, assault/ed, or all the stuff about children.

So much info dumping and I don't like how finding a mate changes people so much. And there doesn't seem to be a romance, they just have sex and know they are mates. So, not my thing.
I picked this one up from Kindle Unlimited and really wasn't sure what I was getting myself into.
I will say I fell in love with this book and the couple when Anja declared she was going to kill Kael... to his face and all he did was smile. Absolutely loved them. Kael, although violent, is an honorable man and I loved how he acted with Anja. Anja also had time to get to know Kael which lead to a semi-slow burn romance. I really really liked these characters, okay?
There isn't much going on here and to be honest, sometimes it felt like we were thrown into the middle of a story, although most things are explained so I never felt too out of depth. The fighting was written well too.
If you're looking for a quick read with a good romance and characters, with some fun action scenes, and a world you wish you could read more about, this is the one for you. I will definitely be reading more by this author. I only wish I could read more about Anja and Kael and their badassness.
THIS IS AMAZING!!
I need more misfit books in my life!

Okay, coming back to add more to this review. It has been 3 months since I read this book and looking at the title/cover still makes me smile. I can recall specific moments that make me laugh and I want to reread it already.
It can be a little sex heavy as Reese ends up going through her heat, but it is more than anything hilarious!
The romance??? Adorable. I giggled, I laughed, I sighed, I rooted for them the entire way. I don't know if it is possible for me to love this book any more than I do.... shoot, I think I'll be rereading it now.

Yeeaahhhh I'm just really annoyed by everything. I'm probably just being way too picky though.
Super sweet and charming with fluff and open communication. Very low drama.
And for anyone like me who goes into gamer girl books worried: there is no doxxing, no stalkers, 1 shitty ex who has left an emotional mark on her but barely comes up on page.
The novella is adorable and sweet, so worth the read. It is absurdly funny with some drama, and the sweetest moments to make your heart melt.
2025 review:
Wow my thoughts have changed. I mean, yes, I'm still happy with all the characters and think the story has some great potential. Unfortunately, I was so, so bored reading this. It is incredibly fast-paced with so many holes. I have a thousand questions pertaining to how things don't make sense. I'm going to leave my 4 star review because I did thoroughly enjoy it back in the day, but if this had been my first time reading it I would have given it 2 stars.
I'm going to try reading the second book because I've waited so long for it and I'm still curious as to where the story will go.

2019 review:
While the story here is interesting and has me ready to read more, I think this book is totally awesome because the main cast of characters all have disabilities. I think this is the first time I've read a book with this many characters with disabilities – which is a true shame.
Anyhow, Zosia finds out she is to become a librarian, hello main reason I picked up this book ;), and needs guardians to protect her while she protects the library. There we have an amazing reason for a harem! So, when the guys start showing up it doesn't feel forced to me. I like how they react to what they learn as well.
Ummmm what else can I say.... this did feel like a beginning of the series book where things are just introduced, but the plot doesn't move much, and I'm okay with that because of how much I was liking everything else in the book. This is one where I'm reeeeeallly looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed and ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Okay, this is a hard one. I really wanted to like this one and there were moments where I thought I was going to start liking it, but over 30% into a book over 400 pages and I'm more annoyed and enjoying it, so I'm calling it quits. I'm not entirely sure if I would have preferred this if I was reading it on a cold winter day. See, this book is on the slower side which I'm not a huge fan of, but I do have more patience for gothic books when it is cold and not hot and muggy.
Besides the pacing, I'm also not a huge fan of Annaleigh. She felt like two different characters to me. At times gungho and ready to solve a mystery and at others silent follower. While I understand how a person can be both, the times she was silent just didn't work for me and seemed done more to make tension or drama.
Perhaps I'm also at a disadvantage because I've had to put this book down a few times, so I might be misunderstanding or incorrectly remembering past parts in the book, but the building romance had me so confused... at the possibility of a love triangle I decided to put it down.
This is super unfortunate and I've heard that it gets super interesting at the 50% marker, but I just don't have time to trudge through 250+ pages to finally start liking a book.
Now, I'm not saying other people won't enjoy this. There are so many creepy moments– this is what was making me want to continue reading. The atmosphere is really well done: it is creepy, dark, and lonely. There is a mystery surrounding the deaths of Annaleigh's sisters and their curse which is really intriguing. Are the Gods real? Are the ghosts?? What is the truth about the deaths and this door that brings the sisters to an amazing ball?
There is a lot to be interested in and the writing is well done. I won't be surprised if many people find this to be an amazing book.
Unfortunately, it just isn't working out for me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Okay, let me start by telling you that I enjoyed reading this one so much that I am planning on buying it in the future. Just having an ARC is not good enough! I almost pulled an all-nighter to finish this book. Plus, I will be reading more by this author.
This book is hilarious, cute, and had me invested really quick. I was in love with the characters quickly, even the side characters.
I did have a minor issue with the conflict and some of the end parts – I really wanted to dive into and condemn more of the negative issues that came up. Sorry, I'm trying not to spoil too much. In that vein, I do want to say that how Luc's anxiety and his family issues were dealt with were amazing – in my opinion.
There is a lot of good to this book. I would totally recommend it and plan on re-reading this in the future.
Not as great as the first book and I totally enjoy Mercy's books more. I'm not sure exactly what I feel this book is missing though...
I really was expecting more growth to overcoming her past abuse, but by the beginning of this book, it seems halfway settled? It is still mentioned and brought up, but not as important as I thought it would be.
Love Charles and Bran when he pops up. Glad to see Tom and Moira again!!
I think I'm waiting to see Anna really grow into her own person.

The title, the cover, the hype... I had to pick this one up and I'm so glad I did.
This book is an absolute treat and I loved every minute. The artwork is fantastic and just my type. The characters are sweet and lovely. The supernatural parts feel like they fit into the real world so well...
This is where I start to feel horrible about my inability to write good reviews, because this book deserves so much praise, but I just don't know what to say besides: I think everyone should read this.
Look we have childhood friends reunited with a budding romance. There are LGBT+ characters and non-white characters everywhere making this a gloriously diverse read. The two friends are so fun to read about and I was curious about what was going to happen. There is even the friend who isn't magical (oh no forgot her name), but she is great and a platonic friend. It is nice having a little bit of everything in one book.
Besides the magic though, this is a story about family and about figuring out where to go in life– finding ones roots and how to grow.
If you like cute graphic novels then you should 100% give this one a try. If you like supernatural or coming of age books, I also recommend this!
I picked this one up because all the youths I interact with are reading this one. I wanted to figure out what it was about so we could talk about it and so I can help recommend other books.
Man, what a book. I did listen to this one and the narrator did a fantastic job.
Josh is written so, so well and so believable. He's in between being a kid and being a teen who is dealing with some pretty heavy stuff. His twin is dating the girl he likes, his father is having health issues, and he has to cut his dreads off which were a huge part of his positive identity. This book touches on family matters, anger, loneliness, and change.
This book is heavy at times and, yeah, I might have cried a bit for Josh, but I will say I'm not a huge fan of how the heavy stuff is handled. At times it felt like Josh was using basketball as a way to ignore the other things going on in his life. I had hoped we'd see him tackle those issues in a healthy way. I see the appeal though. I see how it is realistic and shows that life, no matter what, is going to keep moving on.
So, I'd give it 4 stars, but adding an extra .5 because of how much my youths like it (I swear I haven't seen this book back on my shelf in at least 2 months now).

I know, I know, I keep telling myself that I'm going to stop requesting graphic novels, especially those involving superheroes. They just don't work for me.
This one I felt actually flowed better than most. There weren't weird time skips and it all takes place in a few days. Unfortunately, this short amount of time makes the relationship between Mera and Arthur less believable.
In fact, Mera goes for wanting revenge and death to changing her mind in what seems like hours. There are literally conversations where people start out as enemies that end with them trusting each other with precious things as if they'd been allies for all time. I felt like I was missing something.
Maybe I need to watch the Aquaman movie to understand this more??? Maybe?
If you like superhero graphic novels, perhaps you'll enjoy this one more than I.
Re-read– I liked it, maybe not as much as my first read through, but enough that I still want to keep going. The drawn out miscommunication between the couple was getting to be a little over the top.
