So just an FYI, I grabbed an ARC of this book through BookSirens, but if you've seen my reviews on literally all the other books set in this world, you'll know these are 100% my own opinions.
I've so been looking forward to Flix's book and I'm not disappointed. This book started with an absolute bang with the funeral and then Flix immediately being kidnapped by the love interest. It was pretty messed up, but in this world it kinda just felt more like Ani was a brat in need of attention and went about it horribly. Flix definitely has his hands full, for real.
The miscommunication trope is a huge part of this story, but it didn't annoy me as much as it normally does because the circumstances kinda of messed things up for them too.
I really liked the characters and how they strike back and manipulate each other – and they both know they do it. Messed up, but out of all the dynamics so far, this one is really not the worst. It ended up seeming really sweet. Eventually they recognize the issues they each have and try to work their relationship in and around them so they can become partners that trust each other in the future. Weirdly, almost feels like the most healthy dynamic???? A nice break to be had after Kaz & Nate's book which was just... yeah.
But a quick reminder to not forget about that kidnapping, torture, manipulation, possessiveness, and excessive jealousy.
Anyhow, I loved this, adored it, and am thoroughly looking forward to the next. Berga & Madden maybe????
