I won the Kindle copy of this book via a Goodreads giveaway and I was ecstatic because Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors! This is my honest review in exchange and gratitude for it.
In usual Sophie Kinsella fashion, this book had me in stitches! It's a sweet romantic comedy that warmed my heart and reminded me that often the best things in life show up when we stop looking in the usual places. Sometimes when we get out of our own way and throw caution to the wind and just go for it, we can find what we really need. I loved this and would like to thank Random House for the digital copy.
I read the Kindle copy of Dirty Letters while simultaneously listening to the Audible version via Kindle Unlimited. Since I'm afraid to spoil it for others I just share briefly my reaction to certain books. If you'd like a synopsis to figure out if it's right for you, click on the book cover image. I really enjoyed this book! It made me laugh so loud that I'm pretty sure my dog was concerned about me by the looks he kept giving me, but it also made me cry that ugly cry - you know, the one where your throat hurts when you swallow. I loved it so much that I'm buying a copy. It's a keeper! Thank you to Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward for another awesome book!
The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah was my February 2021 Book of the Month choice. I also purchased the audiobook via my monthly Kobo audiobook subscription. I read the physical book while simultaneously listening to the audiobook. This is a remarkable historical novel that tells the story of a modest, quiet woman who was stronger, braver, and more beautiful than she truly realized. The audiobook was narrated by actor/author/narrator Julia Whelan (one of my top 5 favorites). I've listened to over 400 audiobooks and this was one of the best book narrations I've had the pleasure of listening to. I guarantee this will be one of my most recommended books of 2021, and I'm sure I'll be suggesting it to my friends, family and colleagues for years to come. WARNING: Have tissues handy!*** 5 + STARS ***
I own the hard cover and the audio version. The narrator is on point and the story line is precious! I was swept up in the characters and their antics. The family meeting at the Main Squeeze's home in Ohio was hilarious! I missed sleep on a week day because I couldn't put this book down. This is my favorite read in 2020, so far. I read some negative reviews, but I can relate so much to the main character that I wholeheartedly got sucked into it all and I can see all points of view, but it is real and the hate in the book is very accurate to how we're treated. The struggle is real! I can see how it may be hurtful or offensive to some, but it allowed the author to take us on such a true-to-life journey with these characters. I hope this becomes a movie or mini-series! Reese and Nic, do you hear me? :)
I loved this book! I found it by following an Amazon ad even though the whole professor + student storyline has never been interesting to me.. that is, before now. This book changed my mind for sure! How could I resist this cover anyway? It has been below freezing here in Wisconsin, but I was fanning myself while reading this book. I could hardly put it down! I read the entire thing in one day. The characters were relatable and so well-developed. I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't wait to start reading the next book in the series. I grabbed it immediately! The Kindle version is affordable and it's also on Kindle Unlimited. The audible version is available for free with an audible Escape subscription Gotta love Whispersync! :)
I borrowed this book via Kindle Unlimited and purchased the discounted Audible version so I could Whispersync and simultaneously read and listen, of course. The audiobook narration was great! There's a lot of emotion in this book because the MMC had a bad childhood and grew up with horrible parents (domestic violence in his home) so it was a bit hard for me to read and then there were the pets who ended up in a shelter because their owners were in hospice and had passed on. However, it's a romcom and the FMC is very quirky and pretty “out there” so it was funny also. I loved the growth between the characters and there was a lot of angst and build-up that led to some very hot scenes. I loved the part when they finally realized they had fallen for each other and wanted to be more than friends. I gave this book 4 stars and would recommend it along with the rest of the series. This can be read as a standalone, but it's better to be read in the series in order in my opinion.
The Last Flight was one of my BOTM picks for June 2020. I waited for the Audible version to become available because I enjoy listening while reading from a book. The audio version did not disappoint! It was great with two narrators telling each character's parts of the story!
I found The Last Flight to be somewhat predictable in places, but there were a few details that came out of nowhere and they were pivotal and definitely raised this book to another level for me. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from author Julie Clark.
I'm reading the Brentwood Boys series right now and out of all the books I've read in the series, thus far, this was my favorite! So often awkwardness between 2 people at the meet-cute stage really makes me feel uncomfortable, but these two characters are so adorable. How can you not love them both? I actually cried and laughed so much while reading this book that I became sad as it was winding down to the end. Thankfully, with the series we'll be reading more about them. I would definitely recommend this stand-alone to anyone who loves romcoms and baseball romance.
I borrowed the ebook with Libby and purchased the Audible copy. Let me start out by saying the narrator was awesome! I just was not happy with the plot of this book. Don't get me started on the open ending! There was so much extra in this book that never was resolved or explained. Is there going to be a part 2?
I think I fell too hard for all the hype on booktube surrounding this series, because it was ‘just okay' and MC fiction (especially that which strays so far from MC reality) has never really been my thing. However, I fell for the poor little groomed, victimized, neglected, sheltered teen wife who grew a backbone when she aged into a young woman of 26 and went full steam ahead for what she desired. (emphasis on the steam part). The editing and writing left a lot to be desired, but the story line was decent. I sure hope book 2 is as good as it has been rumored to be.
I've really enjoyed each of the Ruth Ware's books I've read so I was excited to get my hands on One by One. I might've gone into it with higher than usual expectations. The reviews tout that the book gives off Agatha Christie vibes and the last book I read which had reviews that boasted this was Shari Lapena's book entitled An Unwanted Guest, which I also gave only 3 stars. This story takes place in an alpine ski chalet which really sounds like a nice place to visit with a team of co-workers. The guests are a team behind a trendy mobile app and they're all part owners. However, they don't all seem to get along (obviously, because what would be thrilling about that? lol). When a snowstorm rolls in, leaving them all stranded, things start getting dicey. My rating is lower than usual because I found that the culprit who starts killing off the guests is really obvious all along and so it's not very exciting. Saying more about this book would spoil it so I'll let you check it out yourself. Thanks for reading my review! :)
Wow! This was an incredible read! Sandie Jones can sure weave a story line that keeps you guessing until the very end! Sure thought I had the ending for this book somewhat figured out, but things started changing. I got some prickling thoughts maybe I was on the wrong trail so that was a fun ride! I wasn't 100% certain I was right until the last 20 pages, or so. I'd recommend this book if you enjoy non-gory, page-turning domestic thrillers.
I borrowed The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata via Kindle Unlimited (KU) and I purchased the Audible version so I could utilize Whispersync to listen while I read this book. This was one of my favorite books by Mariana Zapata and it had some of my most favorite characters in it. They were very well developed. I could relate to the main character a lot. A warning to anyone who is sensitive about foul language that, if it really offends you, this might not be the right book for you but I loved the spicy main character so much! It had me tearing up in laughter, joy, and in sorrow. I loved the martial arts and fighting aspect, too. It was thrilling to read about the main character's achievements in the sport since she was female and still was a match for men larger than her. She was very skilled. I think I laughed more reading this book than any other. I would definitely recommend this book.
This book was so entertaining. When it comes to thrillers, I love red herrings! When an author does it right then I quickly add them to my new release watchlist. Lisa Jewell is an excellent writer and her books never disappoint when it comes to red herrings. I always swoop up her new books as soon as they come out. I was thrilled to receive this last week from Book of the Month before its actual release date in the US (October 13, 2020).
In this book, a girl goes missing and we try to surmise what has happened to her and how. That's not a spoiler, it's actually what the book about. The story is thrilling and is told from the perspectives of three different characters and alcohol fog might make their POV of a few scenes a little hazy. If you're like me, you'll find yourself yelling at them as you read along because the things they do seem incredibly stupid! I've come to realize that these types of characters end up leading to my most satisfied reading experiences!
I really want to visit the UK so something cool about this book is that the area of Hampstead is almost like a character in the book. I even found myself cracking open Google maps to see if I could figure out the lay of the land as the characters moved about.
I would definitely recommend this book to domestic thriller fans.
This fast read, The Girl In the Mirror by Rose Carlyle, is one of the best debut novels I have ever read in my life! I received my copy from Book of the Month last month (October 2020). I simultaneously listened to the audible version, as well, and the narration was fantastic. I really thought I had it all figured out, but I did not expect that twist at the very end. Wow!
We have to be careful when we leave our reviews for mystery/thriller books so as not to overshare and ruin the twists or plots so I'm usually brief, but I can't stop gushing over this debut novel! Maybe I'm still just coming down from the high of that last twist at the end. I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone who enjoys domestic thrillers.
This is definitely going to be a write-in vote for debut and thriller categories for Goodreads 2020 Choice Awards.
I'm a sucker for time-travel novels, but only when they're done right like this one was. The story line was perfectly executed. I was so sad when it was over! I wanted more of the years to be revealed in this book, because I was falling in love with these characters. Margarita Montimore has a new fan in me.
**I borrowed the digital version of this book through the library's Libby app. I was able to listen to the audio version simultaneously via Scribd. I know I'll be getting a physical copy to keep, though, because I absolutely LOVED this book! I don't want to spoil anything so I'll keep this brief. Sometimes there's too much information in book reviews & descriptions and it ruins the story for anyone who hasn't finished it. I'll conclude this by saying I'd love to read a part 2 for this couple or perhaps a book about Emily getting a HEA. **
I finally finished the Becker Brothers series and Old Fashioned was a great finale. I knew Jordan's book would be the best since he was such a quiet, loving, kind, and strong brother to them all. I couldn't wait to know the secrets and mystery surrounding his adoption. But I most excited to get the answers to the questions about the fire and Mr. Becker's death.
The scenes between the H and h were emotional and their chemistry was so hot! When Jordan took Sydney into his arms and told her the story behind dancing to Eric Clapton's song, “Wonderful Tonight”, it brought tears to my eyes.
When they were in the woods on the hood of Jordan's Bronco after mudding, The Essential Mary Chapin Carpenter song “Shut Up and Kiss Me” started playing in my head. The lyrics are perfect!
Oh my goodness how I enjoyed this series and this book was a wonderful ending to it for sure! I was sad when I got to the end because I really wanted to stay in their world a little longer.
As a self-proclaimed font addict, I know A LOT about fonts and lettering, but even for me the beginning was a little difficult to follow and get into, but I persisted and was rewarded in the end. The romance is a slow burn, but it stuck with me. Our female protagonist is (all kinds of ways) in her head and I could really relate to her insecurity and loneliness. This warm, but seemingly aloof stranger walks into her shop and she finds herself drawn to him. I totally caught the feels with this one. Here it is, a month after I finished this book and I'm still thinking about it. I borrowed the copy from Kindle Unlimited and checked out the audio from Libby, but I really want to own copies for keeps, because I know I'll want to read Love Lettering over and over again.
This was one of my November 2020 Book of the Month selections, but I also purchased the audio version and listened while simultaneously reading from the hardcover. A love story was almost non-existent and we suffered the whole book through a very tortuous slow burn, which can usually be entertaining, but it somehow missed the point of satisfaction in the end. The female friendships were nice, humorous, and enjoyable to read. I must be honest, this book was not bad, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be when I chose it.
This was a phenomenal thriller! Plenty of carefully placed red herrings abound. I secretly relished the premise of the story because I'm not a big fan of social media fame whores. I abhor all the former nobodies who've gained popularity based on their own narcissistic tendencies to post photos of everything they've eaten, worn, purchased, etc. It's sick how modern society feeds into the social media circus that is Instagram. In this story, the main character carefully planned her everyday life around hits to her Instagram account.
I'd like to give a big thank you to Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc. for the free paperback copy of Follow MebyKathleen Barber that I received by entering the drawing here on Goodreads. I started reading it immediately and couldn't put it down. I would definitely recommend this book to thriller fans.
I'm such a big fan of these books! As soon as I finished all of the books, I missed the characters and found myself having to start them all over again. Imagine my excitement when I learned DGS isn't finished with Rose Gardner's story, yet! I just finished ‘When the Bough Breaks' which I had on pre-order for months, and I'm about to put #7 on pre-order now even though January is so far away. Bravo!!!!! Denise, please keep ‘em comin'!
This is the first book in the Brentwood Boys series by Meghan Quinn and it has been on my TBR for so long I decided to read it after so many of the cameos in her other books. Even though these can be read as standalones, I'm one of those readers who has to read about the characters from the get-go so I'm doing it. Note: you can get the boxset of the first 3 books on KU with the Audible membership price on the audiobooks with all of the first 3 books so it's like 3 for the price of 1. :)
I was really enjoying this book until the break up, but I also love it when books don't follow the same cookie cutter process, so there's that. I just lost interest at the break up because it was so abrupt and then the years go by with just a few paragraphs to recap that space of time and well I think I would have given this 4 stars if that time took a little longer and more preceded the break up and if they talked more about it. Maybe I have a little more personal experience in this type of situation that's foreshadowing my feelings, but when you're dating a college athlete who is as good as Knox Gentry was (and he was a Junior at that!) it doesn't come out of nowhere that there's going to be a draft decision so that was a bit odd that Emery was so shocked, but it was necessary to build tension for that break up, I guess. I'm on to the next book. I really do think I'm going to like this series because the banter between Meghan's characters is really fun. ***Knox and Emery have a “couple cameo” in So Not Meant To Be as guests on Kelsey's podcast. Really cute scene there! Great book!
I truly believe there is a season for everything, and with that, there is a right time for each and every thing. I started to read The Stopover when it came out, but I wasn't really in the mood for it at that time so I put it on my TBR.
This was the right time to read it because I instantly became enthralled with the story of Jay and Emily. I borrowed it with my Kindle Unlimited (KU) subscription and read it overnight and then completed it after work the following day. I LOVED it! I can't wait to read the next book in the Miles High Club Book series. I loved Tristan in The Stopover so I'm sure I'm going to enjoy his book.
