The Mixtape was one of my Amazon First Reads selections for June. I waited for the audiobook to be released before digging in. There were some very sad themes in this book and author Brittainy Cherry executed them well. So well that I actually teared up and at one point I cried pretty heavily. The characters were relatable and even the supporting characters were written well. I loved Oliver and Alex's parents! Their love and fun nature came right off the page. I found myself simultaneously streaming the songs mentioned in the background as I was reading. The audiobook narrators were superb. Warning for a few sensitive subjects that might disturb certain people: death of a twin; rape; suicide; drug use.

Here we are again with me forgetting everything I thought about this book. I really need to get into the habit of writing my reviews as soon as I finish reading something or at least jotting down some notes. This book deals with some tough topics. death of a loved one, family drama and rape just to name a few so if you are easily triggered, I definitely recommend looking into triggers before picking this one up. I loved the romance in this one. You hate the characters you're supposed to hate and love the ones you are meant to love. The 5-year-old stole the show for me. She was just so adorable. There was a reveal toward the end that I totally didn't see coming. We were so close to not having a 3rd act break up but unfortunately there was one, but I think it could have been done better. I can definitely see myself reading more by this author.
