The Wall of Winnipeg and Me

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me

I borrowed this book with Kindle Unlimited and purchased the audible version so I could use Whispersync to read and listen simultaneously. I originally gave this book 4 stars, but came back the next day to give it 5 stars instead because I could not stop thinking about it! I usually don't like slow burn romances because I get bored if things go too slowly. However, this book had the perfect build up. It was a very entertaining story and I'm sure that I'll be reading it again in a few years when I've forgotten the details. I would definitely recommend The Wall of Winnipeg by Marianna Zapata to my friends who enjoy romance novels.

Drive Me Wild

Have you ever had a book on your TBR that you wanted to get around to reading but just had not done it, yet? A book that you kept putting off and then finally decided to read it, because book 2 was already out? Then you wanted to kick yourself because you can't believe you waited so long to read the book ... one that really got to you? That is how Drive Me Wild by Melanie Harlow was for me! It's not only how I felt about the book, but the author, too. I really enjoyed this one and now I'm plowing through Harlow's books like crazy! I'd definitely recommend the Audible and Kindle version with Whispersync to those who enjoy romance novels!

Make Me Yours

This is book 2 in Melanie Harlow's Bellamy Creek series and I enjoyed this book so much! I'd definitely recommend the Kindle and Audible versions with Whispersync to all the romance fans out there. Warning for the reserved types: This author really knows how to write a steamy love scene! The romance is so sweet and who doesn't love the widower single dad trope?

This Time Next Year

This was one of my November 2020 Book of the Month selections, but I also purchased the audio version and listened while simultaneously reading from the hardcover. A love story was almost non-existent and we suffered the whole book through a very tortuous slow burn, which can usually be entertaining, but it somehow missed the point of satisfaction in the end. The female friendships were nice, humorous, and enjoyable to read. I must be honest, this book was not bad, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be when I chose it.

That Second Chance

That Second Chance was a cute story to read while being summoned to a hospital bed all week. I really needed something romantic and light. I fell in love with each character and look forward to reading the adventures of the Knightly clan. I'm sure this is closer to a 3.5 star rating for me, but with whole stars available, I'll have to concede with 3. The story was a tad too trite and predictable to be a 4 star IMHO, but I did enjoy it just fine. Meghan Quinn's books are available on Kindle Unlimited.

Love Your Life

I won the Kindle copy of this book via a Goodreads giveaway and I was ecstatic because Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors! This is my honest review in exchange and gratitude for it.
In usual Sophie Kinsella fashion, this book had me in stitches! It's a sweet romantic comedy that warmed my heart and reminded me that often the best things in life show up when we stop looking in the usual places. Sometimes when we get out of our own way and throw caution to the wind and just go for it, we can find what we really need. I loved this and would like to thank Random House for the digital copy.

The Girl in the Mirror

This fast read, The Girl In the Mirror by Rose Carlyle, is one of the best debut novels I have ever read in my life! I received my copy from Book of the Month last month (October 2020). I simultaneously listened to the audible version, as well, and the narration was fantastic. I really thought I had it all figured out, but I did not expect that twist at the very end. Wow!
We have to be careful when we leave our reviews for mystery/thriller books so as not to overshare and ruin the twists or plots so I'm usually brief, but I can't stop gushing over this debut novel! Maybe I'm still just coming down from the high of that last twist at the end. I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone who enjoys domestic thrillers.
This is definitely going to be a write-in vote for debut and thriller categories for Goodreads 2020 Choice Awards.

If I Never Met You

**I borrowed the digital version of this book through the library's Libby app. I was able to listen to the audio version simultaneously via Scribd. I know I'll be getting a physical copy to keep, though, because I absolutely LOVED this book! I don't want to spoil anything so I'll keep this brief. Sometimes there's too much information in book reviews & descriptions and it ruins the story for anyone who hasn't finished it. I'll conclude this by saying I'd love to read a part 2 for this couple or perhaps a book about Emily getting a HEA. **

I love historical fiction and time travel romance novels, but I struggled to stay interested in this book for some reason. I'm sure many factors were due to my own personal preference, but the main thing I struggled with was the dialogue. Many words and phrases used by Chuck and Justin would most likely have been met with confusion by the residents of Galveston in 1900. I know this book is a work of fiction, but I just couldn't get past that. I did appreciate the decision made by the characters at the very end of the book. This book was slow in the first half and I almost DNF'd it, but I kept reading and it got better. However, it never totally pulled me in or redeemed itself.

The Liar's Girl

This book was so good that I could not put it down! I started it Sunday afternoon and didn't finish it until the wee hours of the morning on Monday. Thankfully, I was off work on Monday and I was able to sleep late. Even so, I probably would've stayed up just so I could finish this book because I loved it and was totally enthralled in it.

In this book, the protagonist (Alison) and her long-time best friend (Liz) end up at the same college as they had always hoped. Liz is not really a good friend, though. Alison starts making more friends and even gets her first boyfriend (Will) soon after starting college and they all start hanging out together. Will is tall, kind, and handsome and they get on very well. However, a serial killer is stalking girls at their college and it appears that Will is keeping some secrets. He is eventually arrested for the string of murders and we find out later that Allison kept a secret herself. Sadly, her best friend Liz had a secret, too. Actions by each of them end up causing a downward spiral of entanglement from which all 3 of them get caught up. One or more of them lose their life (well, life as they know it) and it is due to the deceit! Soon after Liz becomes a victim and is found dead floating in the canal, Will is arrested for all of the murders and is sentenced to live out the remainder of his life in a high security psychiatric facility for criminals, but there is word that he may soon be transferred to a regular prison.

We find that Allison left her home country of Ireland to live in the Netherlands just to get away from everything that happened that first year in college. However, 10 years later, new murders have started up again and Will says he has information that might help them solve who is doing this but he will only tell Alison. After much trepidation, Alison agrees to meet with Will at the facility.

The story travels back-and-forth in time following Alison, Will and the current day murderer.
This book was a very thrilling and it keeps you guessing until the end. At the very end there is a twist that made me yell at my Kindle! I could've done without learning that bit! I would definitely recommend this book if you enjoy thrillers like this.

I found the Kindle version on Amazon for a good price. I was looking for books with an Audible Escape accompaniment. It's not Whispersync-enabled, but the audible version is available on Audible Escape if you have it, but only for a couple more weeks. Audible Escape is ending on November 1, 2020, and they're not allowing new subscribers to Audible Escape anymore.
I'm not sure if this will be free on Audible Plus. I'm trying to get in as many books as I can until Nov. 1st. That is why I put a lot of my other TBR books on back burner for now. Audible Plus will have limited books and from what I have seen the amount of selections isn't that promising.

Invisible Girl

This book was so entertaining. When it comes to thrillers, I love red herrings! When an author does it right then I quickly add them to my new release watchlist. Lisa Jewell is an excellent writer and her books never disappoint when it comes to red herrings. I always swoop up her new books as soon as they come out. I was thrilled to receive this last week from Book of the Month before its actual release date in the US (October 13, 2020).

In this book, a girl goes missing and we try to surmise what has happened to her and how. That's not a spoiler, it's actually what the book about. The story is thrilling and is told from the perspectives of three different characters and alcohol fog might make their POV of a few scenes a little hazy. If you're like me, you'll find yourself yelling at them as you read along because the things they do seem incredibly stupid! I've come to realize that these types of characters end up leading to my most satisfied reading experiences!

I really want to visit the UK so something cool about this book is that the area of Hampstead is almost like a character in the book. I even found myself cracking open Google maps to see if I could figure out the lay of the land as the characters moved about.

I would definitely recommend this book to domestic thriller fans.

I'm a sucker for time-travel novels, but only when they're done right like this one was. The story line was perfectly executed. I was so sad when it was over! I wanted more of the years to be revealed in this book, because I was falling in love with these characters. Margarita Montimore has a new fan in me.

A Stone in the Sea

A Stone in the Sea is book 1 of the Bleeding Stars series by A.L. Jackson. Each book is the story of a member of a fictitious internationally known L.A. based rock band called Sunder. Book 1 & 2 are about the lead singer and guitarist Sebastian “Baz” Stone who meets and falls for Shea who is a waitress in her uncle's bar in Savannah. Book 1 ends in a cliff hanger and their story ends in book 2 Drowning To Breathe.
I enjoyed book 1 a little more than book 2, but this is good book with an entertaining storyline. I really love A.L. Jackson's writing and can't wait to finish this series.

One by One

I've really enjoyed each of the Ruth Ware's books I've read so I was excited to get my hands on One by One. I might've gone into it with higher than usual expectations. The reviews tout that the book gives off Agatha Christie vibes and the last book I read which had reviews that boasted this was Shari Lapena's book entitled An Unwanted Guest, which I also gave only 3 stars. This story takes place in an alpine ski chalet which really sounds like a nice place to visit with a team of co-workers. The guests are a team behind a trendy mobile app and they're all part owners. However, they don't all seem to get along (obviously, because what would be thrilling about that? lol). When a snowstorm rolls in, leaving them all stranded, things start getting dicey. My rating is lower than usual because I found that the culprit who starts killing off the guests is really obvious all along and so it's not very exciting. Saying more about this book would spoil it so I'll let you check it out yourself. Thanks for reading my review! :)

One to Watch

I own the hard cover and the audio version. The narrator is on point and the story line is precious! I was swept up in the characters and their antics. The family meeting at the Main Squeeze's home in Ohio was hilarious! I missed sleep on a week day because I couldn't put this book down. This is my favorite read in 2020, so far. I read some negative reviews, but I can relate so much to the main character that I wholeheartedly got sucked into it all and I can see all points of view, but it is real and the hate in the book is very accurate to how we're treated. The struggle is real! I can see how it may be hurtful or offensive to some, but it allowed the author to take us on such a true-to-life journey with these characters. I hope this becomes a movie or mini-series! Reese and Nic, do you hear me? :)

I listened to the audio version of this book via Scribd. It was a bit predictable, but there were a few red herrings dispersed throughout so I gave it 1 more star than I would have otherwise. I'm just not a fan of foolish or gullible female protagonists, or else I may have given it 4 stars. I just couldn't stand behind Gen.

The Last Flight

The Last Flight was one of my BOTM picks for June 2020. I waited for the Audible version to become available because I enjoy listening while reading from a book. The audio version did not disappoint! It was great with two narrators telling each character's parts of the story!
I found The Last Flight to be somewhat predictable in places, but there were a few details that came out of nowhere and they were pivotal and definitely raised this book to another level for me. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from author Julie Clark.

I read the Kindle copy of Dirty Letters while simultaneously listening to the Audible version via Kindle Unlimited. Since I'm afraid to spoil it for others I just share briefly my reaction to certain books. If you'd like a synopsis to figure out if it's right for you, click on the book cover image. I really enjoyed this book! It made me laugh so loud that I'm pretty sure my dog was concerned about me by the looks he kept giving me, but it also made me cry that ugly cry - you know, the one where your throat hurts when you swallow. I loved it so much that I'm buying a copy. It's a keeper! Thank you to Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward for another awesome book!

I bought the hardcover copy and Audible version, but when I saw the Kindle copy for less than $5, and that Whispersync for voice was available, I went for it. The story was good and I liked the main characters, plus there were some good lessons, too. I just had issues with the way Leon's part was written so I struggled with rating it higher.

Half Sister

Wow! This was an incredible read! Sandie Jones can sure weave a story line that keeps you guessing until the very end! Sure thought I had the ending for this book somewhat figured out, but things started changing. I got some prickling thoughts maybe I was on the wrong trail so that was a fun ride! I wasn't 100% certain I was right until the last 20 pages, or so. I'd recommend this book if you enjoy non-gory, page-turning domestic thrillers.

I'm such a big fan of these books! As soon as I finished all of the books, I missed the characters and found myself having to start them all over again. Imagine my excitement when I learned DGS isn't finished with Rose Gardner's story, yet! I just finished ‘When the Bough Breaks' which I had on pre-order for months, and I'm about to put #7 on pre-order now even though January is so far away. Bravo!!!!! Denise, please keep ‘em comin'!

The Lost Husband

I purchased the Kindle and Audible version of The Lost Husband by Katherine Center. I really loved this story and wish I would have read in sooner. Be forewarned that if you plan to read the book before watching the movie starring Libby Bibb and Josh Duhamel, you should probably watch the movie first. Like most movies, it doesn't come close to all the magic in the pages of the book. Let's face it, there's just not enough time on the reel to get all the nuances necessary to pull off the whole story that fans of Katharine Center really deserve. I will be recommending this book to all my book reading friends.

Three Days Missing

This is my review of Three Days Missing by Kimberly Belle - it's not a synopsis of the book. You can get the publisher's intended description or GoodReads' version by clicking on the book image or title.
I purchased the Kindle and Audible versions so I could read and listen simultaneously. One reason why I do this is because I'm not coordinated enough anymore to walk while holding a book in front of my face and some books just can't be put down. ;) Another reason why I do this is because, with my A.D.D., it's necessary to read the words and hear them audibly in my ear so I can drown out all the noise and distractions around me.
This book was very good! There were a few things I expected to unfold, but that's more of my imagination going wild than anything else. The character development was good, and although I had sympathy for the mothers, I didn't care for them much. I figured out who the culprit behind the boy going missing was, but the author kept me guessing for a little while. I can usually figure things out not too far into any book, but when an author as talented as Kimberly Belle weaves such an intriguing story line like this, it keeps you guessing and questioning every determination you make.
I would definitely recommend this book!

Dear Wife

I purchased the Kindle version of Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle on Amazon and simultaneously listened to the audiobook which I borrowed from the library via the Libby app. I really enjoyed this book, but there were a few trigger moments for me so it wasn't the easiest read, by any means, and it was so very realistic that I had to step away and regroup a couple of times. However, I believe the sensitive situations and how the story unfolds made it all better in the end and is why I gave it 5 stars.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I would caution you from watching any YouTube reviews or reading blog reviews beforehand. Please do check them out afterward, because there really are some good ones, but when I was trying to decide which Kimberly Belle book I was going to pick up next, I watched 2 that promised no spoilers, but they failed. Their choices for casting gave away one of the biggest twists in the book. I was disappointed about these spoilers so I'm giving a warning. ;) Hope you pick this up and enjoy it.

The Marriage Lie

This is the first book by this author that I've read and I gave it 4 stars. I bought the Kindle and Audible versions of this book and utilized Whispersync for Voice. I never got bored and read it straight through in less than a day, only stopping to make meals and catch up on some household chores. The narrator, Johanna Parker did an excellent job and I rate the performance with 5 out of 5 stars.
The moral of the story is that you can always find the cracks in the façade if you know exactly what to look for, regardless of the genius behind the design. Sometimes I wanted to yell at the characters for being so stupid and not keeping their mouths shut. There were moments when they didn't realize what was going on and I was thinking ‘How can a person be so stupid?', but I'm sure I probably would've fallen for the same lies if I was in that situation.
Some people didn't like the ending, but I loved it. I'm about to start another book by this author since I enjoyed this one so much.
