Melissa does an amazing job at bringing the reader into the scene with her writing. It hits it's mark right where it counts. I felt my heart strings being pulled multiple times during my 3 read-throughs of this book. I'm not super keen on heavier subjects when I read, but with this book it didn't matter, I quickly got over the discontent I usually have when reading or watching anything. My stance is usually “I want to read to escape the darkness and issues of the real world”, but this collection of poetry sucked me in fully to the point that I couldn't put it down. As a poet myself (With a unique style) Mask Shavings many tales, I found to be very well constructed, flowing, vibrant, cohesive and clear. This is a must read for poetry lovers & even those who typically find it hard to read poetry. Five out of five from me. I greatly look forward to her future works.
This book... What a ride! The characters, the world, all of it is just... wow. Miss Barrison is highly gifted at expressing emotion - be it chills, thrills, heartbreak, joy, and many more. I'm thoroughly invested in this universe! The only negative thing about this book is how much I want, yet have to wait for, the sequel. If you haven't already, grab yourself a copy now! You won't be disappointed! E.S. Barrison is definitely an indie author to keep your eye on in the future. This is just her debut novel & I'm feverishly anticipating what comes next. Masterful! That's the word most fitting of this book! A wonderful blend of lesser known fairy tales baked into a wonderful treat of a retelling. Barrison makes it clear that, like a chef, she knows what ingredients to use, how much, how long, and the appropriate temperature to cook it on, as well as the best tools for the job.
I started this book at 7 PM 2 nights ago and finished it the morning after. You care for these characters despite their somewhat creepy progression and dispositions. The tale strikes at your fears, but not in an overwhelming way. At times I found myself repulsed, yet I couldn't help wanting more.
All in all a fantastic display! Tuppence was intriguing, but Focaccia has me officially invested in this series of Fairy tale re-tellings! All I can say is E.S. Barrison needs to keep them coming! Very well done! Highly recommended for anyone seeking a real Brothers Grimm fairy tale retelling, but be warned this definitely isn't Disney.
I was provided an Arc from the author! All opinions are purely my own.
Ms. Infinity truly is Earth's Greatest Hero! She goes through the same everyday struggles as you and I - From holding down her job and paying bills to dealing with embarrassment and socially awkward situations. All this while secretly being a super hero. I had the feeling of a superman retelling while reading it with some awesome twists thrown in for good measure. Mr. Kirschner is obviously a massive fan of super heroes, and it shows. While the origin of Infinity is ala Superman, her day to day struggles are more easily equated to Diana Prince - A.K.A. Wonder Woman, particularly the 70s/80s show (is that the right year?) All in all Ms. Infinity is a Hero you'll root for and aspire to Emulate! This book is a solid read, and I highly recommend it to fans of super heroes, and even coming of age stories. Support Mr. Kirschner and Fall in love with Ms. Infinity just like I did.

Happy release day, Em'e!
Fantastic! Spectacular! This book surpasses and subverts expectations!
Em'e Savage has proven that the Sci-fi genre still has surprises for us.
The universe Em'e has created is one of danger, love, and intrigue. The characters are, above all else, human. They're relatable, endearing - They have aspirations and flaws. They're not just members of a military venturing from planet to planet, or even some arrogant ancient order of knights with laser swords fighting an unseen evil. They're people you feel like you could grab a coffee with, just struggling to find their way through an expansive sea of stars (Great game btw).
The planets and even ships that this universe allows for are very cool and interesting. I was constantly surprised every time a new locale popped up. Even the hull of a ship in this universe feels like there's more to it.
This book simply subverts expectations, proving that this genre, despite how over-saturated it is, still has light years worth of life left in it.
I can't recommend this book enough! Go grab a copy!
Once again, it's a knock out tale from E.S. Barrison! Yet again we return to the world of The Mist Keepers Apprentice, this time from a different perspective. The world is familiar, yet alien, and the characters you've grown to love are no where to be found. In their place we find a new cast of unique faces, each with their own quirks, traumas, and ambitions. Story telling may be illegal in this book, but thankfully it's not in real life. Which means you have no excuse not to check out this awesome book! I'm truly excited to see what's next from Miss Barrison!

Geez Louise! If the author keeps doing this to me, I'm gonna need therapy. The emotion this book evokes in the reader is powerful! Neela reels from the end of book 2 and thus so do we. The journey she goes through in this one is... I don't even have a word for how heart wrenching it is. But, that said, the book is still amazingly fun! It strikes that golden balance of emotional and exciting. I'm thoroughly invested. I'm gonna give this series a praise that I never thought I'd give any story. This series is likely to be the next Harry Potter or Hunger Games! It's just that good! The world is just so alive and real, despite it having anime-esque powers. Give this series your full support! Spread the word and get it into the hands of your friends and family! This is, just... wow... Highly recommended!
After over 2 years, I'm back and better than ever. Needed a break to rediscover my love of storytelling and to rebrand myself. This book is the result. This is my first published book that's not poetry or verse, it's just good old regular prose. I hope you enjoy!
Ok, first off, can we talk about that ending? Kaitlyn, friend, buddy, I've never met you face to face and you just sucker punched me worse than any bully in my entire life. That is a pain I will never forget, so thanks for that. LOL In all seriousness though, I did not expect that ending, or for it to effect me the way that it did. Bravo! Masterfully done. But the ending would not have hit so hard had the build up from the beginning not been so good. Book one hooked me into the world. This book has made me a permanent resident. The deep dive further into the characters is amazing. Such rich histories that I know we haven't even cracked the surface. This just proves that Kaitlyn knows ever aspect of this world and her characters even if we never will. I'm desperately awaiting book 3! Bring it on!!!
(This book was given to me as an ark back in 2022. I had this review written and read to go, but for some reason forgot to post. Just got a copy of book 3 from Miss Kaitlyn, and devoured it over the weekend. Now onto review that one!)
This book was a highly engaging, impossible to put down, thrill ride! Legaspi's prowess shines brightly in this first book! The characters each have a unique quirk and personality that gives me anime vibes! The heroine: Neela is an MC that you just can't help but root for as trouble after trouble comes her way, ending in a heart wrenching scene that made me have to wipe my eyes. The world of The Card Holders is filled with danger and intrigue, and I desperately wanna know more. I have so many questions about this world and it's people, it make's me wanna go to youtube and make theory videos. A unique spin on the Hunger Games formula, this book is a must read for those looking for some excitement, and feels without leaving the comfort of their couch. GO BUY THIS BOOK!!!
Yet another, slow, un-engaging, not fun to read, verse novel bogged down by identity politics. I'm so sick of this! I absolutely love the idea behind verse novels, so why are they never fun and exciting?! When I read I want to escape reality – I can't be the only one! If I want a depressing story about abuse, sexual, drug, race or otherwise I'll watch the news. All I want is an exciting, fun, imaginative verse novel that's engaging to read. A Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or Hunger Games kind of story told in verse! Surely it's not that hard! Verse is able to better capture different aspects of a story than prose. So why?
Stunning & exquisite! A story that grabs you from start to finish, and doesn't let go even after you finish! The writing in particular is artistically complex and beautiful! As a poet, I fell in love with C.K. Miller's use of prose and the English language. There's just something addicting about the voice and rhythm of this book. The story by itself would be a winner, but combined with the masterful writing, this need to be on your shelf now! Can't recommend this book enough, and Book 2 is already in my queue! I'm so excited to see what happens next in this world that Book 2 jumped the line of my TBR list! Definitely gonna start it this week! Do yourself a favor and buy this book!
Not a bad read! As an an aspiring author myself, and a fellow verse novelist, I can truly appreciate the concept of mixing all these different verse types together! Very well written! I'll will definitely be keeping an eye on Mr. Alexander in the future.
UPDATE: I am now a Self-Published Indie Author who also writes verse novels/Verse Thrillers. Mine are less slice of life and more fun, and full of magic, and excitement! One's that allow the reader to escape reality, and enjoy the story. So far everyone that reads them really likes them. If you're looking for a more magical take in a Verse novel I recommend you check out my books on amazon. I promise you won't be disappointed!
