It started off strong, and I really enjoyed the first 40% or so, which had a lot of hilarious moments. However, it became a bit repetitive as the story progressed, and the ending felt predictable. Overall, it was an alright read.
I cannot put into words how much I loved this book!! The premise was very unique. It’s very rare for me to read a romance where the couple are together from the very start yet hate each other and want to end it. Normally, its either a second chance romance (where they have broken up) or they are enemies and later get together. Safe to say, I was hooked from the very start.
The characters are also really well-written. You both love and hate them at the same time. Its also really cool in that you get this view of the characters when they are at their absolute worst. It’s so much harder to like them, but you DO end up loving them so much at the end. You love them despite their flaws. Plus, the growth that both of them go through is really sweet and encouraging.
The comedy and banter in this book is also elite! It is very rare that I find a book that has me laughing the whole way through. I literally couldn’t wait to find out what prank that they were going to do to each other next. I was also surprised (and delighted let’s be real). The way that it is all written makes it feel more like I am watching a rom-com than reading one. It felt very immersive.
Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough! It’s so funny and cute! I will definitely be buying this the first chance I have.
Well written, but it was one of those books where they were so mean to each other that I wasn't sure I wanted them together at all. There were some tender moments though.
This was such a fun read. I loved Naomi and the fact that this story was told through only her perspective. I was rooting for her when she was wild and evil and then even more so when she was vulnerable and in love. From the prologue the author captured the feeling of being on a second date with someone you're super into perfectly. I could almost feel the butterflies. I could also feel the rage at D-Money and her baby boy. I was really resistant to seeing any positives in Nicholas, but I was won over so hard. He is a fantastic male lead. I got all dreamy about his hair and his eyes which I couldn't even picture clearly. I loved his love for Nightjar and the flowers and notes. I loved the teases we get throughout with almost kisses. It makes the inevitable coming together so much sweeter. I want to visit the Junkyard and the Backwoods Buffet (though I would be a little scared to eat there) and meet Leon and Brandy. I loved it.

Most of the characters are just mean, obnoxious, and self-centered. (the wife. the husband, the mother-in-law, the co-workers, etc.. Almost everyone in this book are just ... meh.) I skimmed through the last 30% of the book coz I couldn't stand it anymore.
I gave this a low mark because the fighting between the couple just went on and on. It was funny, and inventive, for a while, but then it just got tedious. The fighting went on for between half and two thirds of the book, without you learning a great deal about them or their problems whilst ploughing through it. There is never a clear explanation of what caused such a catastrophic break-down between them. Well, there are some reasons kind of given, but I wasn't convinced by them, because the author never explained why. Then a resolution happens in the last quarter to a third of the book, which I wasn't convinced by either. I need to believe that a character's behaviour has a reason and is plausible. Too little explanation.
I spent a quarter of this book wishing they'd call of the engagement but their crazy antics were a fun time and by the end I was pretty into them making it work

I'm going to be completely honest, I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this when I first started reading but when I got through the first chapter? I was hooked.
This book is so funny and I found myself laughing out loud and receiving odds looks from whoever was around me.
Naomi and Nicholas are everything to me. They are so chaotic and had me giggling on numerous occasions. I don't know what it is about this book that scratched an itch in my brain but this is most definitely a comfort read for me.
Being able to read Naomi and Nicholas fall in love with one another again was so beautiful.
This is one of the best rom coms that have ever rom comed.
I did not particularly liked the first 100 pages as both characters felt childish. I could not understand why they would let their relationship reach that point without ever discussing it.
At some point, I've started liking the hero and that changed my enjoyment of the story.
Usually, I prefer to read both POV, however, Sarah Hogle was able to convey Nicolas feeling through Naomi. Our knowledge of the relationship develops at the same time Naomi is experiencing it and learning it and I think it was well done.
Loved this! Such a great rom com that focuses on working through hard times as a couple and choosing to continue to love each other through it. Knowing that everything won't always be fantastic and learning new things about each other all the time. I enjoyed the deeper meaning of it, and it was also hilariously written. I laughed out loud at many scenes.
At first I thought I wouldn't like it because Naomi was being a terrible jerk to Nicholas. She was so so annoying in the beginning, and she kept thinking that she knew exactly what he was thinking during everything they were going through. Honestly, I wish we had chapters in his point of view so that we could know what he was thinking.
But whatever, I ended up loving it!

I have NO word for how MUCH I loved this book. The DEVELOPMENT of the story, the characters, It's like I hated the characters and like them, along the way, fell in love with them, again. There were smiles, laughs, and tears, and it was all worth it.
This is one of my favorite romance books of all time now. TOP10 for sure. ♥
This was a good book after along time.
First 2-3 chapters are immensely Boring but if you keep on and get to the fourth chapter or so it's a really good book.
It somehow avoids all the pit falls of modern romance. ( promoting the next book, unnecessary sex scenes, too much focus on side character or side storyline all of them are completely avoided. )
It also has a realistic portrayal of heroins relationship with social media. I loved that part

The couple finds themselves in a game of chicken wherein whoever calls off the engagement loses, even though neither want to get married anymore, not even a little bit.You Deserve Each Other is an outrageous and funny book about consciously choosing to be with who you're with. It imparts an optimistic message about many relationships being salvageable even when they seem in dire straits. Inexplicably, stampeding into the woods also helps the couple a lot, and I want to hate that, but their house is magical, so I'm in a tug-of-war with myself. However, what Nicholas did to Jason is unforgivable and an automatic dealbreaker, and while Naomi may have forgiven him I will never. What the fresh hell is this book. DNF.
Dysfunctional and cruel marketed as humorous. I couldn't feel sorry for the heroine who was really the author of her own demise for being the same as her future mother-in-law who she despises, a neurotic pathological liar. She listens to her dumbass friends who all hate, nay, resent her fiance because his wealthier than them and one of them is an internet conspiracy theorist who hates dentists. This same nitwit who she HATES but still takes sides with and listens to about her relationship. This woman is a dummy. I'm not a fan of reading about dysfunctional relationships existing long past their prime. Just fucking break up, already. Roll credits.
While this book made me laugh and kept me entertained, I was too annoyed by the main character for most of the book to be able to say I really enjoyed it.
Naomi is engaged to Nicholas, but she has come realize that she can no longer stand him. She wants to back out of the wedding, but in her mind to do so would mean Nicholas wins because she believes that he also wants out of their upcoming nuptials. So instead of calling off the wedding like mature adults, they begin a war of sabotage and pranks that is so juvenile and petty that it is hard to believe they ever loved each other.
The thing that keeps this book from being more enjoyable for me is Naomi's personality and behavior. She is excessively immature and refuses to see past her own misconceptions. She believes terrible things about Nicholas with no evidence that they are true. She never takes the time to listen to him or to accept that she may be the problem in some of the situations. She seldom considers his feelings. She is a horrible fiancé. She allows her friends to bash Nicholas in his presence and never defends him. Nicholas is a much more likable character. I felt bad for him while reading the book. Though he does participate in some of the juvenile behavior, it is mostly reactionary after Naomi has done something to him.
The last few chapters of the book are its only saving grace. Watching Naomi and Nicholas reconnect and learn the realities of their relationship is nice, especially after all the vindictiveness of the earlier parts of the book. I cannot say that I grew to like Naomi, but I stopped actively despising her.
I ended up giving this 3 stars because of the humor in some parts and the sweetness of the last section of the book. I would not recommend this book to any readers that do not like books with unlikable characters.
December 2021 reread:
I enjoyed this so much more on the reread. Somehow I found Naomi and Nick's antics a lot more endearing this time around. More and more I realise that my feelings towards a book are very much based on my mood.

I liked this book but it felt like it was lacking something.
I didn't know what to think going in. I thought the blurb made it sound like our main characters were in an arranged marriage or something. I mean, how could they be engaged and hate each other without some trope like engaged for inheritance, etc.? I was very delighted by the tale.
Once I was in the story and knew the characters, the situation felt very real–two people who love each other, grown apart by time and life experiences, and no one says anything to rock the boat. It's probably more real-life than a lot of romances I read. And I was rooting for Nicky and Naomi. They didn't disappoint.
I particularly loved the flowers. Haven't we all been there? You see someone else get flowers and think, “Man, I wish I'd get flowers.” But then when you do, you're just like, “These are pretty, but what am I going to do with them? They're going to crumble in a week and I'll have to clean them up and dump their stinky water. I hope they weren't expensive.” Okay, maybe that's just me. Naomi and Brandy's responses were over the top, but that's who they are. I don't want to spoil it by going on further. I definitely enjoyed it.
At the end, I wanted more. An epilogue. Nicky's mom to....something, I don't know. But I'm writing this review after a week, and I still remember the main characters' names, which means it stuck with me. I'm giving it 4 stars, but I might up that if I re-read it at some point.
Definitely recommend and will pick up Hogle's next book!
I didn't love the first half of this book, Naomi was a very challenging character to like. It got better and the story did stay with me for a while after I finished the book, that made me up my rating to 3 stars.

At first I didn't like this book at all. But then came the second part, and... AH, I LOVED IT SO FREAKING MUCH. It was difficult for me to imagine this relationship work in the beginning, but it somehow worked for me. Naomi and Nicholas went through so much growth as characters, and I'm so proud of my babies.
