Noor Unnahar is a young female voice with power and depth. The Pakistani poet's moving, personal work collects and makes sense of the phases of collapsing and rebuilding one's self on the treacherous modern path from teenager to adult. Tinged with the heartbreak of a broken home and the complexity of a rich cultural background, yesterday i was the moon stands out from the Insta-poetry crowd as a collection worth keeping. yesterday i was the moon centers around themes of love and emotional loss, the catharsis of creating art, and the struggle to find one's voice. Noor's poetry ranges from succinct universal truths to flowery prose exploring her heritage, what it means to find a physical and emotional home, and the intimate and painful dance of self-discovery. Her poetry and art has already inspired thousands of fans on Instagram to engage with her words through visual journal entries and posts of their own, and her fan base only continues to grow.

you remind me of my favorite metropolis sparkling, loud yet hauntingly sad when the light goes outyour confidence; a popular skyscraper your sadness; an old orphanage your anger; a call of riotyour tears; an uninvited stormi cannot thank you enoughfor reminding me that cities too breathe and humans too carry a heart of concrete{my favorite metropolis}
I didn't think I would like this because the style isn't my cup of tea, but I found this collection lovely and I liked the illustrations too.
“the most beautiful thing in this world isn't made
up of particles. it's the strength of a person who
has seen the collapse of their world, everything
they held dear crashing down in a million pieces.
yet every morning, they wake up and build their
life, all over again. mourning their loss in a
tranquil silence. i haven't yet seen
anything more astonishingly beautiful.”
Noor Unnahar you truly are the only brightest light in the darkest night. thank you

This was a lovely read. Noor is a poetess with the heart and ability to shake your foundation. Her book is filled with beautiful imagery found in both her words and her sketches. I had a wonderful bit of moments reading through this one and would be delighted to read her again.
