Witches of East End

I originally gave this a 4star but rereading it, I'm not sure why. This reads like the author didn't know what was going to happen.
The ending felt incredibly rushed and the actual results of some of the plot was just explained briefly at the end.
I think I rated it higher because I liked the series, but you'll see why they changed a lot when it was adapted to keep things moving.

I am shook. That ending was so left field, she home ran it out of the damn realm. That being said this book had me in it's grip, I really enjoyed every moment my mind spent in North Hampton BUT I often found my thoughts drifting. So was it me or the book.... Either way I can't say with an ending like this one that Im going to run out and read the next in series.

Witches of East End blew me away. It's a paranormal mystery of sorts that includes just the right amount of romance - enough to make the reader root for certain couples, but not too much as to distract from the overall plot. Melissa de la Cruz has crossed over to writing for adults beautifully here and I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see what's next for the Beauchamps and the rest of the East End residents.

I'm not sure about this one...partly it was interesting, partly it was too melodramatic, maybe, for me. It ended on kind of a cliffhanger, though, so I may try the next one before I make up my mind about the series.

Good book! It was on my reading list but I hadn't gotten to it yet when I started watching the series on TV, so I decided to move the books up on my reading list. This book has more mythology but I think I like the TV interpretation better surprisingly. Usually I like the books better.

It was just ok. I would not normally continue the series, except that I picked up the second book at a library book sale. It does, however, explain why the second book was only 50 cents (hardcover)!

It was hard to figure out where the story was going for most of the book and I can't say that I'm really all that attached to any of the characters. If it wasn't such a short book, I doubt that I would have finished it.

I found this book so poorly written, I almost gave up. But it was short, so I hung in there. The characters are dull and flat, and the whole book leads up to a less-than-exciting 20-page ending scene that is meant to be exciting, but, well, isn't.

The worst part for me was how the writer kept having her characters ask questions at the end of each chapter. “What did he want from her? Was this an omen? How was she going to get herself out of this mess?” I think it's a weak writing technique (don't tell me what questions I should be asking, that's insulting. form the story so that I ask my own questions.) and it is way overused in this book.

This was my first Melissa de la Cruz ... and it'll be my last.
