Will Abstracts, Belmont County, Ohio

This is an every-name index of the wills recorded in Volumes A, B, and C in Belmont County, Ohio. There is some concern that there may have been probating activity prior to 1810 when the first book seems to have commenced.

The basic order of the documents was retained, even though at first it seemed that the officials had some difficulty establishing the pattern which later emerged; i.e., the issuance of letters followed by the will (if any), followed usually at some distance by the appraisal, the sale, and the final settlement.

Names of all participants are given as well as the compiler could interpret the handwriting. Alternate spellings are given in square brackets following the original entry.
