I usually like Findlay's books but this one was just not for me. The only perspective I liked was Jenna's but then too many side characters kept coming in. Them what should have been the most intriguing part, the past chapters, was so confusing. I was skimming through them because they made no sense and were so strangely placed in the book. Sometimes just randomly in the middle of chapters.
I did not expect some of the things that happened to happen. There was so much going on, I would get caught up on one theory and drop the ball on what else was happening. Obviously, this was all a little unbelievable, but it was still a good read!
The characters are compelling, the story swift and full of suspense, and I hadn't figured it all out until the author wanted me to.
I LOVE thrillers, but not of this nature. Lots of action scenes, which were fine, but simply not my favorite. I don't regret reading it, but won't be seeking out more by Alex Finlay.

My first Alex Finlay book and it will not be my last. Wow this was soooo good. I thought I had things figured out, but the truths kept shocking me – it was fantastic.
Jenna is the absolute best and I love how she was both ex-assassin and 100% in love with her tax lawyer husband.
I just finished What have we done by Alex Finlay and here are my views.
The trauma of that children's home is still heavily ingrained on Donny, Jenna and Nico even after all these years. The wounds are brought back to the surface as they find out that Benny, another foster kid in the same home, is now dead.
25 years ago, children from the home disappeared and were never seen again. After the home closed, the teens were all relocated and lost touch. Something bound them all together. One shared secret.... Something so awful that they agreed never to speak of it again.
It's not just the funeral that brings them together but the fact that someone has tried to kill each of them too and at this point, there is safety in numbers.... Right?
This book was actually well written and the plot was clever in its complexity. This book made the number one mistake I have with thrillers.... Too many POVs. I understand why the author felt this was necessary but I find it muddles the storyline when you have to check who's POV you are on and with a shifting timeline. It was messy. A couple less POVs would have been better for me.
I did enjoy the twists, they were quite brilliant. I even think there was room for the author to take it a little darker than they did but all in all I found it was quite a good read. Easy lucid language and it was well developed. Definitely kept me entertained.
3.5 stars! Don't let the star rating put you off, I'm just not a fan of multiple points of view but for people who are.... It's dynamite!
Thank you @stmartinspress and @netgalley for my review copy!
Spy books apparently are not my thing. I also don't like celebrities in books. So...this did not work for me and felt it was slightly confusing how we were thrown in.
Ok, I loved the premise of this book. The story, the development - both characters & plot, and the twists/epilogue. The plot was so different than any other mystery/thriller/suspense book I've read before. BUT my one grievance about the book, which rounded it down to 3 stars, is that there was A LOT of moving parts: a lot of characters, multiple timelines and POVs. It was difficult for me to follow and focus on. Sometimes I'd get confused between which character was in which situation, or what timeline we were in. I enjoyed the book generally but that was definitely one of my obstacles.
I can't believe I haven't read this author before. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this one, and overall was pleasantly surprised. I was quickly engrossed in the story and the easy writing style and I finished in less than 2 days.
I enjoy multiple POVs which works well for my mood reading style. The story itself was interesting and even though a tad unbelievable at times...it worked.
If you're a fan of thrillers and morally grey characters, this is a good one to grab. I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
