I struggled with this one. Started by listening, and then scammed to the end with the physical book. I wanted to love this, but just couldn't connect. And then some excellent reviews here, so the book definitely has enough substance that it is important. I think I prefer more likeable protagonists.
As a privileged, middle-aged white woman who lived through the Trump presidency, I saw myself, often uncomfortably so, in the feelings and flaws of the main character. But the book didn't quite take off after a promising beginning, and it also felt bogged down in Syracuse history/architecture. Nice to know that I'm not the only woman who is angry at the world most of the time though.
