This... wasn't as too my liking as the first time around, but I still want to try the second book. The relationships are a little confusing.

This was really good. Somewhat confusing... but good.
I really enjoyed this mystery, having no idea who the murderer was or even the motive! I didn't know until the main character let us know. Seriously, I even had guesses on who Lacey really was, but...I was tricked. I kinda thought I knew, but gave in.
I will say it took me a while to get hooked and the wording did confuse me at times. For the most part, I understand this is a language thing, so my rating doesn't reflect it. Really, what confused me the most and what did influence my rating was the relationship between Flint and Joesbury. For the stuff he did to her, I thought she'd hate him – didn't he jump her and slam her head into the door as a warning of how bad her security is??? Or did I misread that?? Flint doesn't feel comfortable around him, yet likes him... this is a budding romance and I couldn't get behind it because it felt like to me that he hated her and she was afraid of him.
So, while I was confused about those few things, it didn't detract from how into the mystery I was. I had to know who the killer was and why. I read the book in two sittings :)
I definitely will recommend this to mystery/thriller lovers as long as they can handle reading about graphic deaths and rapes, including rapes of minors, with little justice being done.
3.5 stars. A bit too many twists and turns that led to a satisfying if slightly unbelievable ending. Unnecessary and frustrating love interest. Gratuitously graphic at times, even if I do believe the author did it to prove a point.
Seems like the author was so bent on shocking us all, she had to include some plot points that were truly hard to swallow. And it was so obvious the BIG REVEAL was coming at the very end, I just kind of got tired of waiting for it and cared very little when it finally arrived and was...not really that shocking at all.
