Twisted

This is a good book to get a snapshot of the sometimes chaotic and impulsive teen brain. I didn't enjoy this book as much as others from the same author. Ido appreciate that she writes about real life situations and traumas that teens face. There are important topics that are difficult to broach with teens but I would recommend her books to anyone with a teen or young adult who may not know how to deal with life's stressors. This one was just hard for me to read due to past trauma.

You ask me, “Hailey, why did you like this book so much? You never give five stars to contemporary YA novels.”

I say, “I have no idea.”

Why?

Because I really have no idea. As soon as I started Twisted, I loved it. It was the first novel by Anderson that I've ever had the pleasure of reading, but I can guarantee you it won't be the last.

Reading Twisted was a bit of an accident. It really shouldn't have happened. I was at the soccer club, and my dad and I were supposed to go out for lunch. We ended up not going out to lunch, and since we had 15 minutes before arriving at the musical we were to attend, we, like the nerds we are, stopped at the library. I perused the shelves for something like- oh, I don't know- Crescendo, but ended up picking up Twisted. It was on my to-read list, and I thought-

“Why not?”

And so I checked it out. As soon as I finished Fairest, I started it and loved it. Tyler was a (excuse my language) hell of a protagonist and the story was so brilliantly twisted around him. I don't think I've read a book as good as this one in quite some time. Even though the book wasn't that long, I felt like I'd known the characters for years. It was gripping, and I honestly couldn't put it down.

Moral of the story: When going to the library, you don't always have to pick the top book on your to-read list.

Not my favorite, but well-written and interesting. I would probably have been more interested in this if it had been from Bethany's POV.

I usually Love Laurie Halse Anderson's books this one was a little too graphic for me.
