Liked it. Didn't love it. Only picked it up because I wanted to read the second and third book, but I saw it was a series
A solid 4, up until he sang!!!!
I wanted to like him. The groveling, the proving he loved her.... I was this close.
Totally on board with Ava she is so strong. They were so good for each other.
Honestly, I don't know what to think about this book... It started soft and fluffy, however halfway through everything changed drasticly. At some point I was reading mafia romance without understanding how I get here and what is actually happening!
The author tried to write about everything: brother's best friend (whitch was useless!), grumpy hero (I found it a little anoying) and the mafia part (whitch was too much for my taste).
Overall I think the characters aren't bad written, but the story is a little over the place.
Those plots twists saved the book because I was 50% and I was bored, I wasn't understanding the hype (still don't) but I was intrigued by two events and I was shocked when my theories were right so I instead of a 2,5 ended up being a 3. I will read the second one soon because I love the character and I want to know their story (:
I really enjoy the book....however - It felt great reading the first half of the book, truly intrigued with the characters; fun, mysterious, sexy AF but then when we got to Ava's past, it felt flat for me like it was just thrown in there. After that with Alex's family drama it was starting to pick up again but of course the ending was drawn out too much and was just okay. I will say that they story did gave me hope and excitement for the side characters. Will definitely continue to read the remaining of the series.
rating- 3/5
I read both 1 star and 5 star reviews before writing this, and i don't usually do that, (because let's be fair gr reviews make you contemplate your entire existence) but i was thoroughly confused as to whether i liked this book or not? I'm still confused so eh; prepare yourselves for a chaotic review i guess.

INITIAL FEELINGS
Okay so when i read the blurb, i was genuinely confused if this was a fantasy or a contemporary romance. heart of ice? danger? devil blessed with the face of an angel? who uses those phrases in a normal contemporary romance anymore, am i right?
As I continued reading and came to terms with the fact that that's how the writing was going to be, i did start to enjoy it more. a small excerpt to explain what i mean:
“He was a look at me wrong and I'll destroy you and everyone you care about kinda guy, and he'd do it looking so calm and gorgeous you wouldn't notice your world burning down around you until you were already a heap of ashes.”
Literally transported me back in time to reading fanfics on ao3, twilight and fifty shades. Overall different writing style than what i read now, but not complaining.
CHARACTERS
Another issue i had, was with the relationship dynamic. I was amused and had fun for the most part, but there were a few things that bothered me. The first being the transition between Alex ‘wanting and ‘not wanting' Ava. Like one minute he's all cold and indifferent, and the next he's just like:
“She's mine, she just doesn't know it yet”
read in a deep voice to make my review funny plis
douchey possessive.
With her doe eyes and innocent features, she resembled a sacrificial virgin awaiting defilement. My cock throbbed harder.“Take off your clothes,” I said, my soft voice a whip crack in the silence.
intrigued
predictability.
The Uncle and Michael Chen plot twists separately that is, I didn't see or think how it would go together; which was well done I suppose.
‘let her go because i'm not good enough for her'.

easy, fun and fast paced read
This was one of the book picks for the Lost in Romance Book Club that I cohost with Michelle. This is an opposites attract brothers best friend romance and it also has the grumpy sunshine trope. This book gets really dark in the end which I wasn't expecting at all but I didn't mind it. You get a lot of twists thrown in and the romance was pretty hot. I definitely look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Wow so there was a LOT going on in this one, perhaps a smidge too much?
I really enjoyed this overall, but feel like there was just so much going on that it felt a bit much at times. I'll definitely be continuing in the series.
The book community led me astray with this one...
In this, we follow a man who is set on a revenge path to ruin the person who killed his parents. We also follow a woman who is all sunshine and rainbows, but can't remember a large chunk of her childhood due to trauma. A romance ensues.
This book was bad. I was led to believe this was a super steamy, dark romance. And it was a dark romance. But all of the twists and turns were dumb. While they weren't predictable at least, they were all just there to make the story worse. So I was hopeful the steamy scenes would at least make up for it. And they also sucked. They were short and boring. This book was not worth the read.
TW: attempted murder, blood, child abuse, death, stalking, violence
I'm giving this 5 stars because this should NOT have worked for me but it did. Going through a sleep regression with my baby and I was so sleep deprived yet I was still hooked on reading this! There was SO MUCH drama in this romance but for whatever reason it only made me more interested.
The only thing that didn't really work for me is the grand gesture at the end. I cringed. But to each their own haha!
Too much telling of what is happening and not enough showing. Also, kind of predictable.
2.5 stars
The plot was all over the place, the pacing was weird and honestly, I disliked Alex. He annoyed me a lot throughout the story, the way he talked to Ava... not my thing at all. It was too over the top and it didn't flow well. Ava was ok, I enjoyed her personality and her friendship with Bridget, Jules, and Stella.
The best part was the groveling but even that was ruined by the time jump. And the time jump didn't make any sense at all! Why do that when the hero needed to make the heroine (and the readers) swoon? A very weird choice if you ask me.
I enjoyed the secondary characters and I'm still interested in reading the next book.
Overall, it was an average read for me. Not bad, not good, just average.
I liked this book pretty much, but there wasn't really anything over the top that made me love it. I noticed a lot of people were reading it and were raving about how awesome it was and how fantastic their relationship is but some of the things that happened in the storyline just came out of nowhere. I even went back to see if perhaps I missed something, but no, I just didn't get some of it at all. Keep in mind that I did like this book and I gave it three stars and I would most likely read other books from this author.
I really really enjoyed this book! I had super high expectations going in and it definitely didn't let me down. The characters and their growth from past trauma was an absolute standout.
