This is GOOD!
Now I understand what all the hype is about.
This isn't just your average steamy romance, there are so many extra layers (particularly with the hero Alex) that the reader is totally drawn in.
Page turner!
DNFing for now. Ava is way to whiny for me to want to read. Maybe I will try again later.
You had me in the first half not gonna lie. Grumpy x sunshine but then he betrays her like that??? Oof and honestly the last 40% felt like it dragged on and on.
It just didn't make sense? So the brother's best friend is this dark and gloomy dude and shows emotions once and apparently it's a big thing since he's emotionless? and so the girl and her gang just decide to do things that'll trigger him? to make him sad, happy etc.. The love portrayed was sweet, but the plot twist was just a meh to me. I expected better. The hype is unmatched. Was this the right book they were talking about? coz Nahhh
I finished Twisted Love a few weeks ago and enjoyed every minute between these pages. Ana Huang weaves a compelling story of passion, broken pasts, and intense attraction that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
The chemistry between the main characters, Ava and Alex, is electric. Alex, the brooding and emotionally distant billionaire, perfectly balances Ava's sunny, optimistic personality. I loved how their relationship developed – it’s a slow burn that sizzles in all the right places. The tension, banter, and emotional growth between them are beautifully written. The supporting cast also deserves a special mention – Ava’s friends are vibrant, fun, and bring so much warmth and life to the story. It’s easy to get invested in the entire group, which adds even more depth to the novel.
Though Twisted Love can be intense, there are a few moments where the pacing slows a little too much for my taste, but the tender moments and emotional growth still had me rooting for the characters through their ups and downs. I’m giving it 4 stars for the captivating romance and well-drawn characters. I’m definitely looking forward to continuing the series and diving deeper into the stories of Ava’s friends, each of whom has their own intriguing layers waiting to unfold
This book genuinely surprised me at the end even though there were hints throughout the book showed me clues. It was amazing and Alex was sassy as heck and I loved it. Also I'm excited for this to be a TV Series!!
2,5.
I didn't highlight much in this book because it felt very lackluster, but these are the few highlights I did make -
“
One of the worst books I've had the displeasure of reading.
The male lead, Alex, is an overly emotional, stupidly edgy, emotionally unstable, cruelly controlling, callously criminal parody of himself. He growls and prowls and snarls and shouts like a child's idea of ‘cool edgy genius'. This is not how real people are.
He falls in love with the female lead on the flimsiest of grounds. He acts so stupid the entire book, one wonders if his claimed 160 IQ is actually even in the triple digits. He doesn't like art because boohoo, my life is so sad.
The backstories of the two main characters are needlessly complicated for the sake of unnecessary drama. The female lead, Ava, is the product of cheating by her mother. Husband of said mother tried to kill Ava (twice), thought better, and she conveniently lost her memory.
One of the side characters is a princess for no real reason.
All through the book, most women are treated merely as shells who chase after Alex because he's so hot. They have no personality except for wanting to fuck him. I did not remember to apply the Bechdel test but this book almost certainly fails it.
Part of the book is wasted pretending to be a thriller, with kidnappings and espionage and murder happening willy-nilly. There are secret fixer groups, hackers, black market poisons, all used as if every CEO in the world has also worked in the special forces. Stupid.
The sorry excuse of a romance has no basis, no progression, and no joy in it whatsoever. It starts on a whim, contains no emotional intimacy, consists entirely of sex and breaks up based on a justification which reads more like a joke. Then Alex spends an year basically stalking Ava, almost the entirety of which is timeskipped and where most of the reconciliation happens. Disgusting.
The sex scenes are boring, the prose is purple, and the eyes are described like the worst fanfiction. Emerald orbs and jade rings? I'll vomit. Ava makes a new friend, and the way we find out about how close they are is that Ava tells us they're close. Incredible. I don't think a single relationship in this book has on-screen growth.
Perhaps the only thing about this book which isn't worthy of the most assiduous attacks is Ava's friendship with her friends. This seems to be the only healthy relationship in this book.
I listened to the audiobook at 3x and it was still too excruciating. Do not read this.
I enjoyed this story so much, the humor and smart remarks between characters is amazing! Can't wait to read the rest of the series! Thanks
This book WOULD have gotten 4 stars but the man singing a song to win miss girl over gave me the ick!
Finished the book in a day, was quite a pleasant ready.
Grumpy + sunshine trope is one of my favourite so it didn't disappoint on that end.
I think again some of the scenarios in this book felt rushed which brings down the stars for me.
3.5
i liked this much better than the ‘if love' books bc of the soap opera-esque dramatics. very trashy, very entertaining. also surprisingly not as spicy as i was expecting
I read via audiobook and the voice that the female narrator uses for the male main character was so annoying that I can't see myself continuing. DNF at 50%
Was this good? No. Was this bad? No, as well. It was mid at best, but it was fun wild anyway lol
I wanted to punch Alex so badly
Definitely gonna read the series since I'm really curious about the other girls story
4.3 stars from me!
I'd like to start out by saying this is not what I thought was going to happen. I also don't understand the mixed reviews with this one. For it to be so popular and to have some of the reviews that it does, I was confused. I really liked it. It wasn't perfect, but overall it was funny, it was tense, it was emotional, it was everything.
The pretty cover doesn't give away the darkness of the plot or the main characters, but I wouldn't go as far as to say this is a dark romance. It isn't, in my opinion. This was a great story and a really awesome book. I'm really excited to read the next ones.
honestly felt nothing for either characters.
every trope in this book made my eyes roll bc there was just nothing to hold any of it up. The love interests were dull, writing is as bad as majority of the romance I've been reading lately, and I don't care for the book to write anything more about it
