Tuesdays at the Castle

 Tuesdays at the Castle was one of my favorite books growing up, and having recently discovered it was the first book in a series, I decided to read it again as an adult. It was just as fun and adventurous as it was as a child. It's a fast-paced adventure of a little girl who loves her castle and her family very much.

Princess Celie is the castle's favorite of the royal children. She is busily mapping the castle as it adds rooms, reconfigures hallways, makes secret entrances, as the castle actively helps the royals with problems. But then Celie's parents, the king and queen, as well as her brother, are ambushed and believed to be dead. What will happen to the royal children? Will the kingdom be taken over by outsiders? Can the castle stop the intruders?

A fun story of a castle that is alive and an adventurous princess.

I love that the castle is a character. And it does all end well.

The ending felt a little rushed and it was hard to get a sense of the passage of time.
The story was good and I enjoyed the concept.

Tuesdays at the Castle struck just the right note with me as I was reading it. Celie is an intelligent, spunky, delightful eleven-year-old, and is a delight to follow around. The writing is smart and crisp, and the pacing is excellent.

Okay, now I desperately want a sequel, set about 5-6 years in the future....
