My bad. I thought this was a thriller and/or somewhat taboo romance. Didn’t realize it was just plain smut with the kind of instant horniness, excused sexual harassment, and forced chemistry I’d expect to find in a video about a babysitter and a pizza man.
I’m not in the mood to tolerate every cringey heterosexual erotica trope in one sitting, and I’m also not particularly in the mood for overt smut. Normally, I’d wait and come back when my reading mood changed, but honestly I just don’t care. There’s nothing meaningful, interesting, or entertaining in the first chapter to convince me that I wouldn’t be wasting my time. In fact, it’s mostly just mediocre writing and unlikable characters - including the world’s dumbest leading lady.
Also? I just can’t believe that a woman who’d get all hot and bothered over a threatening stranger sexually harassing her and inappropriately touching her while she’s at work is an uber-virgin who has never even been aroused before. She seems to have no problem speaking sexually to the guy who’s being inappropriate (after noting she feels she should be calling the police!) and propositioning him in the midst of her suddenly-discovered fear kink. She seems to have no problem recognizing the feeling of her “loins constricting the first time” as being arousal, when if she’d never felt that in all her life and is now 21 freaking years old I’m pretty sure she’d be worried that a medical emergency was happening. And she starts sexualizing this random stranger before he even enters the diner or acts inappropriately toward her. But, again, totally an uber-virgin who’s never been aroused in any way before.
