I like military fiction and animal tales, so I expected to really love this story. However, it didn't quite deliver, especially in terms of really knowing Darci as a character. Knowing only two facets of her past made it very difficult to get a truly “3D” sort of feel for who she was as a person and as a spy. It was obvious she was a woman of faith now, but what made her so? At what point? So I felt a lot more bonded to Heath and sure of who he has as a man, a character, and a Christian–even though Darci had more page time than he did. And I never really made sense of the group getting the men and dogs back together and how they were doing it, because the book was so mission-focused. But the story did mostly keep my attention and I will be continuing the series.
