This one started out really fun. I liked the difference between the refined lady and the rough-edged colonist war-veteran. They really fit together well and I loved how annoyed she was by his appearance. She is a bit uppity, but we find out her reasons why and I think it made sense. There are moments I hated the characters for their choices–a few dear god why moments, but I'm more lenient with romances.
This book is a bit darker than other historical romances I've read. There are mentions and scenes of war– British vs Native Americans, so scalping is mentioned. So is rape, PTSD, and suicide. There is a lot here which gives the characters more depth.
Will I continue the series? Probably. Again, I'm not seriously hooked, but I like how fairy tales are weaved in and I want to know Vale's story.
This book.
My gosh, it was dragging as all hell.
You'd have to put up with the filler chapters for so long til the good stuff comeswhichisabout four or five chapters before the ending.
I rather enjoyed Rebecca and O'hares story they were cute together.
