I liked the overall premise of the book, and in particular I enjoyed the plot for the first third to half of the book. The writing felt a bit inconsistent, though, both with style and some of the grammatical approaches to Henry's speech. Overall not a bad book.
This one was damned near perfect. First, Winter is one of the best female characters I have read in a really long time. She's smart, brave, and layered in her emotions. She also has her head on straight. Then there is the world building, which is pretty awesome. What really blew my mind is how genre-bending it is. It feels like horror, has touches of magical realism, and at points it becomes a fish out of water comedy of errors. There are some really funny parts in this book! I would recommend this to fans of Gaiman, Kelly Link, and Holly Black. Fall is also the perfect season to read this.
(3.5⭐) Wholly original and fast paced. Enjoyed this little fantasy, looking forward to more.
