This book felt very different from anything I've read for a while. It felt like an older romance novel, like something I would have read as a teenager. I mean that in a good way. It felt refreshing.
I'm a sucker for books where a woman disguises herself as a man. Thanks Tamara Pierce!
In this book the MMC gets lost in the Yukon or something for like ten years and it's big news when he is found and is returned to England. But of course 10 years in the Yukon and in total isolation would change any man. However, this man is a DUKE and must therefore be made to act ‘normal'.
This is where the FMC comes in. She was born female but her mother and doctors/nurses help her lie to her husband and convince him it's a boy. Otherwise he would have kept pressuring the FMC's mother to keep trying even though she's had three or four miscarriages already.
I don't understand how we are supposed to like that fuckin guy.... I digress.
FMC is raised as a boy and is following her father's footsteps as a psychologist. They attempt to help the Duke regain himself.
Immediately the Duke knows that FMC is a woman and will only work with her.
It's a romantic, almost nostalgic story. I really enjoyed it.
