first it took FOREVER to get the plot moving. was a lot of set up.
then the ENDING
THE ENDING
i knew cardan (LOL NOT AUTOCORRECT SWITCHING IT TO CARDAMOM.) had something up his sleeve but EXILE?! after MARRYING JUDE?! i'm so sad.
One more adventure of Jude in the Elfhame. I really enjoyed this book and I think it was interesting to read it and it had good plot twists. The end was as awesome as in the first book!
The only thing I don't like is the relationship between the MC. I know I should like it, but unfortunately, I am not convinced they actually like each other. Mini spoiler: and that is shown at the end.
This will always be a 5 star to me until I get older and find out why I did it until then it will be 5 stars... I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH YAAAAA
The way I'm fuming over this book right now.. imma go start the 3rd one cause uhh wth..was..that..
Whoa, this series is really surprising me. The political intrigue and the scheming was off the charts in The Wicked King. I couldn't put it down! And that ending... SCREAMS!
Well, I hope the solution to the situation Jude's in by the end of this book isn't what I think it is because she's not a dumb character and THAT would make her dumb.
Off to read The Queen of Nothing.
The Wicked King picks up right where The Cruel Prince left off. I like it when books do this – time jumps usually add nothing to a story but confusion. I'd say I enjoyed this book, but I did spend most of it wondering what Jude's plan actually was. It felt like most of the book she was just flying by the seat of her pants, hoping not to get tricked into anything. Of course, near the end of the book that DOES happen by someone unexpected.
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the ending of The Wicked King. It felt a little...out of nowhere, almost? I mean, yeah faeries are tricky but it didn't feel like something that was set up throughout the rest of the book. I guess I'll read the next book and see how that one sits as an end to the whole series.
I will say I still didn't have huge amounts of sympathy for Jude. She's rather unlikeable throughout this and the first book. Maybe that's just me, though. Either way, I enjoyed most of The Wicked King, and will read on.
3.5 Stars
I hate Cardan.
Quick Thoughts
• Holly Black's writing style is still, in the most polite way possible, unique.
• Why does Madoc remind me so much of Thanos? Hmm...
• My favorite character so far is Vivi because she is the only one I can tolerate.
• Taryn needs a redemption arc or needs to die. So does Nicassia. I said what I said.
• No more Locke, guys! It's inappropriate and violent!
• And finally, even if I don't like her, Jude deserves better.
I dunno, I didn't walk away from this one feeling anything in particular. So I'll give it a 3. But it wasn't horrible. I guess maybe the romance isn't as good as it could be.
I have seen a lot of people say that they enjoyed this book more than the first book but I'm not so sure I feel the same way. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed this book. I ended up reading it in like a day because it was an easy book to become immersed in. The first half of this book was a little bit slower paced and hard to really be into because not a whole lot happened. The last half however is where things picked up. I have to say the hate to love trope in these books is done so well and I am fully into this romance. There were some twists thrown in that I didn't see coming, especially with that ending.
Now that Jude has the crown, controlling Cardan and ruling through him, what is the cost for keeping that power?
I can't believe I waited so long to get back into this series. Filled with treachery, political intrigue and strategy this made for an amazing book.
A fast-paced, action packed story enriched with faeries, merfolk and magic. This book was filled with strategy, back-stabbing and a lot of unforeseen surprises! A fun read!
I'm so glad I waited until the entire trilogy was published in order to read this series because damn that ending!
Jude continues in her role to guide the king and strike to better his interests, all the while keeping her young brother behind the scenes until he is old enough to assume the leadership role. It's a dangerous world, and no one can be sure who is your friend and who is your enemy, with shifting allegiances and tilting alliances.
The Folk of the Air a dynamic series, and I can't wait to see where it goes next.
4.5 stars. Ok, I need the next one now. The second installment was even better than the first, and I'm deep into the court intrigue. Magical, dangerous, absolutely tantalizing.

WHAT IS WITH THAT ENDING.I didn't mean to fly through this book so fast cause it's gonna be a long wait until the final book comes out, but yesterday there was a 10-hour power outage and before I knew it, I've gone through 80% of it. Similarly to the first book, the plot twists come one after another and the last one hits you at the last chapter.[b:The Queen of Nothing 26032912 The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of the Air, #3) Holly Black https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1553624975l/26032912.SX50.jpg 45959205] is only coming out in November. At least we won't have to wait until 2020, I thought.3 months of waiting won't be that bad, I thought.I THOUGHT VERY WRONG. CARDAN. YOU BETTER HAVE A REALLY GOOD EXPLANATION FOR THAT ENDING.
The Cruel Prince ???????????????The Wicked King ???????????????
I read the sequel to The Cruel Prince immediately after finishing the first book in the series. I think that speaks volumes for how much I enjoyed this series as I finished both books within a few days of starting the series.
The Wicked King maintained the quality I found in the first book. The fae were still as tricky and cruel throughout the story, the plot kept on being complex and surprising, and I really enjoyed a lot of consequences from the first book coming to land in this one. Jude had gained power for herself over the course of the first book, and some of the trades she made to get herself this power helped her in the second one - but quite a few came back to bite her in the ass.
Another YA series I would highly reccomend, and the ending of the second book was fantastic!
