I was a little bit afraid of returning to this series when I read the first four books almost 10 years ago, but catching up with the fifth book felt like I finished the other books just a while ago. Yes, some tiny details got lost in my memory, but the overall story and characters are still there and I really enjoyed being again in this magical world full of historical famous characters and mixture of mythologies. Can't wait to finish the series with book 6 very soon...
The warlock (s) = Niccolo Machiavelli & Billy the Kid. Si kembar yg tadinya terpisah, bertemu kembali & ternyata kedua org tua mereka ternyata adalah.... Ugh, seru banget, lanjut ke The Enchantress...
Excellent read
Good addition to the series. They are still keeping me interested and I can't wait to see where the next books take me.

25. I'm sure I'm missing someone. While it's true that we only might see a brief glimpse at a few of these, most of them have some history we have to learn about.
And it is so goddamn boring.
Can we just be done already? Can we just kill off John Dee and Josh and be done with it? Maybe? Yes?
The only person I really care about at all is Machiavelli. I liked him from the beginning and was kind of bummed that he was evil, but he's evil in a subtle way. I like Scatty & Joan of Arc too I suppose, but they're getting the raw end of the deal.
The four main characters, Josh, Sophie, Nicholas & Perenelle are my least favorite. How does that happen?
This book...what can't I say about this book.
This books here is definitely my favorite of all the saga (without the last one). It's just the things they say here are just tremendous.
My mom read this book first than I, and while I was reading I found this little lines underlined. They said “The magic, in itself, does not exist. Alone is a term that has been used in excess. There is only your aura ... well, the Chinese have a better word for that: qi. A vital force. An energy. the type of energy that flows within. It can be molded, controlled, directed.” And well, I though, it is true. After all, one of the stuff that this book is trying to teach is that. You are powerful. You have your own energy. You put the boundaries. You control yourself.
And right after I read this I just felt better with myself.
Now, I love the fact that Scatty and company is not totally lost. It's actually great to know that they have a future. With the Flamels...I think I'll never stop fighting about the fact that they're great people and the rest is just treating them wrong. But I have to admit that they did make a big mistake when looking for the twins and stuff. But I forgive them. I though it was very sweet that Perenelle though she couldn't live one day without Nicolas. So cute. About Josh, my feelings have not change a bit. Who am I kidding? I hate him even more. When he was about to tell Dee that he was going with them, I was just about loosing it. But right then when we said I'm coming with you, I felt nothing. No- thing. I was 100% done with him. And I knew that Agnes was more than she showed. I. knew. it. Oh yeah, big shock when Osiris and Iris showed that they were Sophie and Josh parents. What.
But, oh well, I guess I'll have to read the last book. And I can't wait to see John Dee die!! So, awesome. Hopefully it will be slow and painful. Okey, yeah, psycho though coming, bug who cares?
The ending made me remember how impatient I am. Really need to stick to finished series
I was not looking forward to this book... mainly because I wasn't completely impressed with the authors writing. I was quite annoyed by book 4 and couldn't believe that there were two more books to end the series.
I must say that Michael Scott bumped it up a few/bunch of notches on this one. He must have read his own reviews on the other books... He must have because this book was so different from the first four.
His writing style improved so MUCH! I think the only thing I didn't like about the book were the scenes where some of the characters went back to Danu Talis right before it was destroyed. I found these chapters slow and I could not get into them.
The Warlock was fast paced, new characters were introduced but more so to bridge story strands together (bridge not tie loose ends up), action was great and ending had a WOW factor. Oh that ending... how the author plans on making it make sense is baffling me even now...
So yeah... this one earned a FIVE stars rating from a hard rater! Happy Reading!
Short review: I think this may be the best book of the series so far. It is book five and I was very disappointed in book four. Good cliff hanger, lots of info about what is really going on, good character development, much more realistic development of the motivation on the characters. All in all a very good book.
