Expectations ruin everything lol. It was a perfectly good book but I expected wonderful.
Very extremely meta. This is classified as a novel, but it is hard to believe that it is not highly autobiographical. Writer, NYC, COVID. Some of it reads like a copy paste exercise of all the cutesy quotes and musings that just couldn't be worked in any other way. Many nuggets of truth, just not very organically interwoven. That said, feels like bits will definitely stick with me. Fast read. Also, Vetch makes me sad.
Reading this brought back memories of being quarantined during the COVID pandemic. I'm not entirely sure if that's a good or bad thing, but I did enjoy reading this book overall, even though I would have preferred more closure regarding Eureka and the protagonist's relationship, as well as more of the author's literary insights. It was enjoyable, but not especially profound. I'd give it 3.75 out of 5.
