This book was recommended to me when I was looking for prompts to fulfil some prompts for the Romcom Swoonathon. I hadn't heard of this one before and it's my first book by this author. I've only read a handful of cozy mysteries at this point, and I've only liked one series so far. I thought this was ok. It's cute and a very quick and easy read. I liked the inclusion of Vampires as well, but everything was just too easy, and Lucy literally doesn't really do any real investigation, but she still finds out who the killer was. I didn't hate this, but I don't think I will continue on in the series only because I just don't care enough to.
This has knitting and vampires in the title. How could I not be drawn to it??
I really enjoyed this. Wasn't expecting to as the other knitty murder mysteries were quite a let down. I mean the mystery here wasn't the strong part. I had a feeling quite soon on after meeting the person, but I really liked the atmosphere and the hilarity of knitting vampires.
Was listening to this while working, otherwise the rating could have been even higher I think...
Just had a fun time with this!
Aside from a few minor details that sort of annoyed me it was a pretty enjoyable read. I liked the knitting aspect which included lines such as “Knitting is a diabolical exercise in frustration” as a cross stitcher who has raised a knitter/crocheter I related hard to Lucy's lack of knitting skills.
Lucy Swift goes to visit her grandmother, but when she gets there she finds out her Grandmother has died. Lucy invherits her grandmother's knitting shop, Cardinal Woolsey's.
Then it turns out that Gram was murdered, but isn't really dead, she is undead and has been turned into a vampire.
Now it's up to Lucy to figure out who killed her grandmother and why. The only problem is she doesn't know who to trust, including her Gram's vampire friends who have their own knitting club.
This book was awesome and I'm really looking forward to reading more in the series and getting to know more of the characters in the book and their back stories as well.
Overview: A really fun mystery involving what might possibly be a murder in an Oxford knitting shop and...well...a vampire knitting club. What more do I need to say?
On 1st Reading: I enjoyed the characters and I really want to know more about the setting. I'm glad I gave this little novel a read.
On 2nd Reading: This series of short mysteries has such a warm and tongue-in-cheek atmosphere that they are the perfect comfort reads. As I've read all the published books in the series and have come back for a second go I can confirm that the cast of lovable characters grows, romances flourish, and we get to know each of them and their eccentricities much better. Yes there is always a crisis - a death, a theft or something more mysterious - but we know that everyone will pull together, help out, and it'll all be OK in the end.
I suppose it will turn into a romance novel at some point, but this one was more a witchy murder mystery, and I liked it that way. Even though she was drooling over two handsome men who both seemed interested in her - that gives the reader chance to drool over the guys without it getting all syrupy and sticky and boring :-D
I also liked that Lucy didn't know much anything about knitting or yarns, and let someone else take care of that, which handily explained all possible knitting and yarn related problems there might have been :-D Well done, Nancy!
I like the idea of a vampire (and other creatures? Hmm... sequels :-D) underground in Oxford. I like the sweet little shops and the older shopkeepers.
I love Nyx :-)
Fun introduction to the series.
The mystery may have not been all that mysterious, but I had a good time getting to know Lucy, her Gran, and the rest of the vampire knitting club.
Looking forward to reading more in the series. :)
