minor spoilers but i don't think they ruin anything. Just kinda revealing a relationship that happens but it was very predictable from the start of the book so read ahead with caution.
i love you Morgan Matson, i truly do but i can't defend you on this book..... honestly wish i could go back in time to unread this book.

first thing i want to rant about is the characters. A bunch of evil little teens who have never been disciplined in their lives.
now for a little serious rant.
Toby was the WORST.
Toby treats Wyatt like an object. Ok u have a little crush on him but he's not allowed to reject you? he let you down gently and let you know that he had his eyes on someone else.
Wyatt goes to date someone else because hes human and is allowed to and toby loses it. She rips the friend group apart because WyAtt iS HeRs even though he does not like her in a romantic way.
“you stole wyatt from me” AGAIN HE IS NOT AN OBJECT, no one accounts for his feelings ever.
Wyatt was painted as a bad guy for a natural thing. Damn i'm sorry he doesn't share mutual feelings to you Toby... that must make him so evil right?
All these characters have to tiptoe around Toby and don't see an issue with it. ‘its just how toby is” shes a sociopath bro. Someone needs to tell her off. I don't understand how this entire friend group walks on egg shells around toby but again don't see an issue with it. I can't even explain how bad toby was in this book. Honest to god, if she was real she would probably be a serial killer.
also she treats waitstaff rudely on purpose..... yeah shes a sociopath for sure.
Bree needs a hug. She needs new friends. The only other emotion i felt for this book other than anger was sadness. I just wanted to save bree from these insane people. She didn't deserve any of the treatment she got :( she didn't need to apologise for anything but was forced to because Tobys insane fantasies matter more apparently.
the main characters suck too. they sat there and thought about their feelings towards each other while a dog was painfully dying at their feet. “i wonder how he thinks about me” ok think about that later, the dog is have a seizure at your feet
Clark is a very unrealistic character.
pretentious idiot.
Loved this. It would have been excellent beach reading - but I instead listened to it in the car. It's probably overlong - but I didn't care - it was perfect and just what I needed for my commute. What a blissful escape.I really enjoyed the characters.
~Full review here on The Bent Bookworm!~Cute. Fluffy. Dogs. Sounds like an awesome time, right? I adore dogs and I've even contemplated trying to establish a dog-walking business myself to bring in some side hustle cash, so I thought for sure I would love this book! I kind of did...and I kind of didn't. There is one huge, glaring issue in particular, but...Good Things FirstDogs! Obviously.Andie isn't even particularly a dog person before the story starts, but after a chance encounter with one she quickly gets lured in. PUPPY LOVE! Anyone who can resist is either heartless or allergic. 😛 Anyway.Friends! Andie and her three best girlfriends are tight. They care so much about each other, it just leaps off the page. I love the way the group texts were presented in the hard copy of the book, complete with emojis. It was awesome and hysterical and oh-so-accurate.Cute. Andie and Clark are SO different and yet they work and are adorable together.Andie is a sexual being and it is portrayed in a POSITIVE light. I loved this. For far too long it's been the THING for guys to be players and have casual hookups and be cheered for doing so, while if a girl does the same she's a slut. Not so here. Andie does have emotional struggles, which contribute to her inability (in the beginning) to connect with any of her boyfriends much beyond a fun and physical level. Even when she does begin to realize that oh hey, feelings are ok even if they're sometimes annoying, she still enjoys the physical side of things. YES! The book doesn't go into too much detail and is pretty tame as far as sexual stuff really, but the implications are there. Not Great StuffThis book is nothing but a HUGE basketful of privilege. White privilege, rich privilege, political privilege, straight privilege...all of it. This smacked me in the face even though yes, I'm white and straight. I am not and have never been from the kind of world this book exists in – where all teenagers have their own cars, the newest phones, perfectly safe neighborhoods, huge houses, don't NEED a job but only work one to avoid boredom...WTF. There are no characters of any other nationality or color, or sexual identity. Like they don't even exist. WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE IN?!? I was extremely bothered and this aspect alone is what brings my rating down. I understand that sure, in some places, this is how people live. But the characters in this book don't seem to have any idea of how well off they are, or that there's anything special about their lives. I guess, maybe, that this is supposed to be a light-hearted, escapism type read...but even if so I just can't buy it. It's not okay and I am extremely disappointed. I'm not sure I will be trying anymore Matson books. Looking at the other reviews on GoodReads, I seem to be one of the only people bothered by this aspect...so maybe I'm oversensitive or something. But it just rubbed me wrong, maybe because of the sheer cluelessness of the characters.Blog Twitter Bloglovin Instagram Google+
It has been fun reading a cute summer read on a cold winter day imagining the beautiful sunny days... This book is quite slow, predictable, not much going on in the way of a plot but it is still enjoyable and very much fun. This book is all about relationships. Andie and her father who don't even know how to talk to each other when they are together, navigate this tricky time in their lives by trying to communicate, get through their grief of losing her mother, finding new things to do together like watching John Wayne movies and sharing ice cream among other things. Andie's group of friends is amazing and I loved their group chats, inside jokes, emoji texts, scavenger hunts and it really reminded me of some of my closest friends. And finally the romance – Clark. He is a very cute nerd, young and famous fantasy writer, homeschooled socially awkward boy who has very very cute dimples. I really loved reading about him and the way he tried to give all the time Andie needed to open up to him, share her feelings and find happiness in the now without making plans for everything. Andie gives Clark the chance to make new memories with a nice group of friends and it was great to see him having fun with everyone, come out of his shell and find the inspiration for his next book. The cause of all the angst towards the end really frustrated me (Andie.. I am looking at you 🙄🙄) and I would have given an even lesser rating if not for the realistically happy ending.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys happy stories with fun characters, witty banter and good relationships. Just don't look for a great plot and be prepared for a long read.
A perfect summer read go say goodbye to the season. It was lovely and light, and did a good job of being unexpected. Whenever I thought I knew what was coming based on old chick flick tropes I was wrong. Well done.
Pretty predictable. But a good summer read. Would definitely recommend you read it. Very enjoyable quick read.
5/5 starsIt's been a while since I've read a simple, cheesy contemporary book. Almost too long, to be honest, as they are some of my favorite books to read. The Unexpected Everything made up for that drought, and so much more. Out of all the Morgan Matson books, I'd have to rate this one as my second favorite ([b:Amy & Roger's Epic Detour 7664334 Amy & Roger's Epic Detour Morgan Matson https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327989202s/7664334.jpg 10261814] will always be #1). I loved the characters, the story, the setting. Just everything about it had me smiling. Clark was such a cool character, however he did seem a little unrealistic to me, but that's okay. Now I'm just wishing to find a young, successful fantasy author for myself....
