Too Much Junk to Wade Through
“No promotions,” the summary on Amazon proclaimed. “Published in November 2019,” it said. So, then, what's with all the ad-style images about a Funny or Die sponsored contest for a talking bottle opener and why are the vast majority of these memes from circa 2012?
Yep. 2012. Back when being a bigoted jerk for funnies was all the rage. Back when Lady Gaga's “Bad Romance,” voting for Obama, and hating Justin Bieber were relevant topics. Back when nobody thought twice about using homosexuality as an insult or body shaming or using slurs for ‘funnies.'??Yawn!
Now, I'm not saying all of these memes are questionable,?? though enough are to make this something of a cringe fest. What I am saying, however, is that they're all outdated and a majority are actually lifted from websites with the watermarks still in tact. There's nothing here you can't get for free by browsing the internet... though you may have to go back several years in the archives to find it. And while I found plenty of enjoyable memes (especially animal-based ones), it wasn't worth wading through all the garbage.
Two stars for having cute dog and cat memes. I'm being generous. My advice to the “author”: next time, prune your memes folder to only the good ones; remove duplicates (and triplicates, etc.); trash the ones that use the n-word, the r-word, homophobia,??watermarked property of websites you don't own,??and faces of non-celebrities who didn't consent to be in your book; and find some modern, relevant memes to include.
I see there are more books in this “series,” but I won't be wasting my time on them. I can find my animal memes elsewhere without having to sift through “edgy” bigotry and references outdated by seven years??to reach it.
