Five desperate city businessmen asked private investigator, Adam Flute, for his help. Their managing director, Sir Frank Alva, was missing, perhaps dead or living with a notorious beauty of doubtful reputation. Flute tracked down the girl and met Sir Frank. But, the next day, he discovered his dead body -- and someone was prepared to swear that Flute had killed Sir Frank.
