Reread (third reading of the book)
While I do love it, I would say this is my least favorite of the three Crowley books I've read. I had forgotten much about it and, in fact, couldn't remember why I was less excited to reread this one than I was the other two (which I reread earlier in 2020). Upon reading it, I remembered: there is a bit of a misunderstanding, an overreaction and a late book separation. I am never fond of this. Despite all that, I do enjoy the book and quite adore Edward. (Side note: some of my lack of enjoyment might also be because there is a sex scene in here - that I forgot about - and it comes right on the heels of the first kiss. I am never happy with that.)
Original Review
I'm pretty sure Edward is the most awkward, socially inept character I've ever read about. The funny thing is, I kind of adore him for that. His friendly overtures and, later, flirting, is so, so incredibly awkward that it's endearing to read about. He says things without thinking about it, the words he thought about saying don't happen, and then he over thinks things and berates himself for past conversations. And, honestly, that's such fun. The rest of the story was good and I enjoyed it, though there were a few plot points I'd have been happier without. The romance was sweet and slow moving and utterly delightful.
