0 - 60% almost dnf'd
60 - 85% damn this book is amazing
85 - 100% please just end
The last 15% was very confusing, multiple chapters ended on cliff hangers or dramatic reveals which would have been amazing ends to the book. But because it kept going it felt like it was dragging on.
The first 60% either needed more action or to be reduced, we spend so long learning nothing and not really pushing the plot forward. I actually think the plot got derailed. It felt like things were written in to get to a point rather than it all being an inspired story.
I should have dnf'd
A well-written, easy to read dark academia, with elements of supernatural beings mixed in.
While it was a bit difficult for me to get into at first, the world building elements not 100% grabbing hold of my attention, once the main characters meet and the plot begins to kick off, it was very easy to read and flowed very well. I definitely preferred Kyan's POV rather than Nicole's, though once Nicole accepted herself, it was fun to see both.
I don't know how I feel about the whole ‘mates' thing, since it was a great start into a budding romantic interest for them both that sudden alters into a compulsion because of what they are. While I understand the need for it, as a method to overcome an external oath, perhaps I'm just not a fan of the whole soulmates thing.
The ending was dealt with nicely, leaving a cliffhanger but wrapping up as much as they could without copping out to throw it all into the next book. I definitely want to know more about the Wake, as well as understand why Callum is so fixated on Freya.
I look forward to reading the sequel in the future.
