A quaint, short graphic novel about the value of being patient in a world that keeps moving faster and faster, leaving many people and skills forgotten. It's a book about mindfulness, regard for history, and understanding that the importance of an art is not determined by how popular or profitable it is.
Overall, a quick and enchanting read with adorable, soft artwork. Surprisingly diverse without feeling hamfisted. If anything O'Neill shows how simple it is to accept and celebrate differences. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
Such a sweet book with gorgeous artwork. The characters are cute and relatable. This is a book that can be read and then enjoyed a second time by just staring at all the art.
Absolutely stunning imagery and the inclusion was one of great joy while I read it. I hope to get my own copy to hopefully share with students when I have a classroom of my own one day!
Heel schattig en koddig en mooie tekeningen, maar het verhaal is maar niks. Leek precies gewoon een idee, zonder echt uitgewerkt te zijn...
This was sweet and adorable and quietly wonderful. A lovely story of friendship and the value of passing down traditions and remembering where you come from. Such inclusive representation of humanity as well; I already really liked the story, but fell in love the second I turned the page and saw Erik, who co-runs the teahouse and uses a wheelchair for mobility. There are characters of color, characters that are not neurotypical, characters who love who they love. Even though the people and animals are drawn in an almost mythical way (characters that appear as humans often have horns or antlers or tails, and not all characters appear in human form), it's just beautiful to see a simple and lovely example of people who are not all the same, and who are all still loved and valued.
I also thought it was clever to include a kind of “Care and Feeding of Tea Dragons” thing in the epilogue. The tea dragons were so cute! Absolutely delightful.
Short but incredibly sweet! The illustrations are so gorgeous, and the story is swift but has so much care and empathy put into it that it brought tears to my eyes.
My only criticism is that I loved it so much I just wanted more! Finishing this book was so satisfying, but also so sad because I just wanted it to go on forever and meet more tea dragons and their companions!
So cute! Brick is my favourite. Such a good fire cat thing. You must now pick your tea dragon personality!
2nd re-read and if possible I love it even more
This is such a gentle and lovely story, perfect for both adults and children. The pastel colours are complementary to the narration and convey perfectly the atmosphere of the described world. Each character has a unique personality and background story, which is amazing considering the length of the graphic novel. Definitely read it as soon as you can!
