I'm sorry but you really mean to tell me that the first thing that went through the main character's mind seeing someone (no spoilers) about to be MURDERED was HOW GOOD HER BOOBS LOOK? Who takes time to sexually objectify a potential murder victim I-
The perfect book for a long flight. Suspenseful and quick. Fun to read on your way home from Norway. :)
My first (and last) foray into Nordic Noir. the detective is a semi-alcoholic, semi-divorced, semi-obsessed fellow with no real interesting qualities. the setting is uniformly bleak with long, unpronounceable names. Pass the Agatha Christie, please.
I really enjoyed the very first part of the book, but then it dragged a bit imo.
This was my first Jo Nesbo book, and I am undecided if I want to read any more of his work. On one hand, I like the dark style and many of the characters. On the other hand, I find his writing unnecessarily complicated.
At the start of the book, I thought I was going to really enjoy it. I did enjoy several aspects of it. I like the character of Harry Hole. He is just damaged and complex enough to make him interesting. I also like a lot of the minor characters. Nesbo is good at creating well-developed characters. I also enjoyed the plot at first. The mystery of the Snowman killer was fascinating. I was highly engaged, but found myself eventually frustrated by the twists and turns of the case. By the third time they thought they had caught the killer, only to find out they were wrong, I began to lose interest. It was overly complicated. The story did not have to be as long as it was, in my opinion.
I gave the book 3 stars because there were many things I did like about it. It is not a bad read, just a frustrating one at times.
A well written page turner....it's my first Jo Nesbo book and I enjoyed it enough to want to read more.
I just finished this book and am seriously hooked!I had heard about the author from a friend and am so glad I was directed to The Snowman. The only thing I regret is that I couldn't have started from the first Harry Hole book which has yet to be translated.(Now I am committed to going back to the first books available in English.)It is always a good thing to discover an author you enjoy who has several books published and you know exactly what to expect. I know I enjoy the author but I have to say you really cannot predict anything. The twists and turns leave you reeling with anticipation as you turn the pages-or click your kindle! Loved it!
Fantastic! I could hardly put this book down. More compelling than The Red Breast, the other Nesbo book I've read. For some reason, sexual deviance seems to be at the heart of every mystery I read these days, which is disturbing, but that's neither here nor there.
