This engaging children's book is narrated by an African American girl. The issues of being teased, shown a lack of empathy and inequality are explored thoughtfully. The girl describes her feelings in an honest and insightful way. The Skin I Am In is a wonderful and entertaining teaching resource. It carries a universal message of kindness and tolerance. This story's moral is empathy, which is a necessary tool toward the shifting in perception of color...a major misgiving in our world. Author Bio: Alycia R.Wright was raised in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Now a resident of North Carolina, she is employed as a Pediatric RN. Her work has shown her the importance of rearing children in equality and with anti-bias thinking.
